City Market is managed by the City of Charlottesville Department of Parks & Recreation. It is a fun, safe and family-friendly environment for local vendors to display and sell their home-grown or hand-made products.
Continuing for 2016, market customers who receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) benefits will be able to use their benefit cards at the market to buy fresh produce and meats. Debit cards will also be accepted. This program is managed by Market Central, a non-profit organization that supports the City Market.
Residents will also be able to drop-off their compostable materials at the City Market this year. Launched as a pilot program in 2015, the Charlottesville Composts program will continue in 2016 and uses the City Market as a drop-off location. For more information regarding the composting program, please visit charlottesville.org/ composting or email composting@ charlottesville.org.
