The president is getting strong backing from his party. His election opponent is mainly getting the support of people who don’t like the president.
The challenger is a Massachusetts liberal with a record of flip-flopping on key issues.
Is it 2012 … or 2004?
A new ABC News/Washington Post poll has the presidential election all knotted up at 47 percent among registered voters. Inside the numbers, we see that more than three-quarters of the voters saying their vote is for Democrat Barack Obama, with 23 percent saying their vote is against Republican Mitt Romney, while more than 60 percent of those who are voting for Romney are really using their vote to vote against Obama.
The numbers track very closely to the 2004 election, which saw Democrats not all that enthused about presidential nominee John Kerry, but particularly eager to unseat Republican incumbent George W. Bush. Their dampened enthusiasm for their own nominee was his undoing at the polls.
As for the line about the challengers in 2004 and 2012 being Massachusetts liberals with records of flip-flopping on key issues, I apologize.
John Kerry isn’t a liberal.
