Since the inaugural “Day to Serve” in 2012, this remarkable and unprecedented event has swept from state capitals to local churches, schools, neighborhoods and families in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. This outpouring of service has resulted in over 750 community events with more than 14,000 volunteers rendering 26,000 hours of service and donating 600,000 pounds of food to local food banks. These events have also helped to improve the environment through planting trees, cleaning up parks and streams and facilitating “adopt a road” campaigns.
The CSPDC Resolution encourages residents, faith-based organizations and community groups throughout the Central Shenandoah Valley region to participate and plan events as part of the “Day to Serve.” For more information, visitwww.daytoserve.org.
The Central Shenandoah Planning District is a regional planning organization serving the 21 local governments in the Central Shenandoah Valley region. For more information about the CSPDC visit www.cspdc.org.
