The Augusta Health Foundation, established by the Augusta Health Board of Directors in 2001 to support health initiatives and support partner health-improvement organizations in the community, has awarded $125,000 in single year grants to 12 local agencies.
“This year, 2011, is a landmark year for the Augusta Health Foundation,” says Linda Gail Johnson, executive director of the Augusta Health Foundation. “Since 2001, the Augusta Health Foundation has provided $2.5 million to support the health and well-being of our community through projects like the ones that received funding this year.
In 2012, single year grants were awarded to:
Blue Ridge Area Food Bank for their Back Pack Program that serve 2,573 children
Boys & Girls Club of SAW for the SMART Moves programs for children age 6-15
Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery for case management services in Augusta County
Family Resource and Referral Center’s Project Star for supervised visits with parents of 0-3 year olds and their 211 Service
Office on Youth for the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program that serves 2,500-3,000 students
Rebuilding Together for home repair and modification projects
Ride with Pride for the Cowboy Poetry program that serves 64 youth
Special Olympics for support for programs and games
Salvation Army-Waynesboro for their Emergency Services Program
Valley Children’s Center for support for forensic interviewing of victims of child abuse
Valley Hope Counseling Center for low-fee counseling services;
Valley Mission for support of the ASK life skills program
The Augusta Health Foundation supports the mission of Augusta Health through effective collaboration, active partnerships, and funding of local non-profits with similar missions to improve the health and well-being of the community. In addition to single-year awards, the Foundation also awards multi-year grants, scholarships to young adults for health career education, funds to staff and support specific programs such as Working on Wellness, and funds to staff and support the Community Health Forum.
