House committee backs study of bizarre currency policy

money-newlinksThe Republican-controlled House Rules Studies subcommittee voted on Friday to support a new study to move the Commonwealth to an alternative currency.

Del. Bob Marshall’s proposal, HJ 590, would study the impact of moving Virginia to an alternative currency if the Federal Reserve collapsed.

“A JLARC study is expensive.  It can cost tens of thousands of dollars.  Are we seriously going to spend taxpayer resources studying a replacement to the world’s backbone currency?  Are we descending into la la land?,” commented Democratic Caucus Chairman Del. Mark Sickles (D-Fairfax).

“Why don’t we just focus on improving Virginia’s education system, finding real new dedicated reoccurring revenue for our transportation future, and creating jobs, rather than studying bizarre and spooky economic theories.”
