On Thursday, Aug. 1, nearly 1 million veterans, servicemembers, and their families will have used the Post-9/11 GI Bill since it was implemented four years ago.
In an official press release issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Secretary Shinseki said, “The Post-9/11 GI Bill has helped many of our Nation’s heroes pursue their education and successfully transition to civilian life. We’re proud that the Department of Veterans Affairs can administer this important benefit that makes such a big difference in the lives of nearly a million Veterans and their families.”
Michael Dakduk, Student Veterans of America’s executive director, issued the following statement:
“As the Post-9/11 GI Bill climbs toward one million beneficiaries, let this fourth anniversary be a reminder of how important of an investment this program is to our nation’s veterans, servicemembers, and their families. It is estimated that the original GI Bill from WWII returned nearly $7 to our economy for every $1 invested. More than an earned benefit and transition program, this is an investment with a proven track record of high return.”
Today, Dakduk joined Curt Coy, deputy undersecretary for economic opportunity, and other leaders from the Veterans Benefits Administration on a conference call with members of the media.
