staunton virginiaCelebrate the season with a genuine hometown Christmas in Downtown Staunton. This StauntoNites event is an old-fashioned Christmas complete with caroling and a Tree Lighting Ceremony in The Wharf, hot drinks and cookies and very special activities for charity throughout Downtown.

The organizers, Stephanie and Jeremie Forbes from Cherish Every Moment, wanted to create an event that celebrates the season by giving to others in need.

They created the Spindle Tree Contest where they made and sold thirty-one, “trees” made from recycled spindles to Downtown businesses.  Each business will decorate their tree in honor of a local charity. Photos of the “trees” will be featured on Facebook at Spindle Tree Contest for Charity. The community will be invited to vote for their favorite from November 24 through December 8.The winner will be announced at The Christmas Tree lighting on December 8 and the $800 donation will go to the winning charity.

Cherish Every Moment will be giving additional funding to support several needy families to give their children a happy Christmas.  “When I told the participating businesses about the girls, they jumped in and offered to set up donation jars,  donated funds and gifts, and offered to donate a portion of their sales during the event,” said Stephanie Forbes, “ It was really touching to see how many jumped in to help.”
