Albemarle County has created a COVID-19 page on the county website – albemarle.org/COVID19 – to provide updated information about public safety, parks, financial assistance, and more.
Resources
The CDC has a wealth of resources for businesses, households, schools, and faith-based organizations at cdc.gov/coronavirus . The CDC is specifically encouraging people to:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Put distance between yourself and other people (social distancing).
- Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects (e.g., tables, countertops, light switches, doorknobs, and cabinet handles)

The Thomas Jefferson Health District is our community’s local public health agency and works closely with the Virginia Department of Health and the CDC.
TJHD has opened a hotline at (434) 972-6261 to answer questions from the public regarding COVID-19.
At this time, that number is staffed Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. The public can leave messages that will be returned as soon as possible.
