Tammy Hipes named principal at William Perry Elementary School

waynesboro2editsThe Waynesboro School Board announces the selection of Tammy F. Hipes as principal of William Perry Elementary School.

Hipes has a bachelor of science in education from Radford University and a masters degree in health and physical education from James Madison University. In 2009, she received an endorsement in educational leadership administration and supervision from the University of Virginia Curry School of Education.

Prior to coming to Waynesboro, Hipes was employed by Rockbridge County Public Schools for six years and Augusta County Public Schools for two years as a middle school teacher. She has worked in Waynesboro Public Schools as a health and physical education teacher at William Perry Elementary School, beginning in 1999, and later at Waynesboro High School in 2008.

Hipes was appointed to the administrative team at Kate Collins Middle School in 2011 as an assistant principal.

Hipes’ peers have recognized her as being a dedicated teacher and administrator, having been named twice as Waynesboro’s Teacher of the Year.

School system superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Cassell said, “Ms. Hipes’ leadership style and commitment to educational excellence will provide a perfect dimension to William Perry Elementary School. In her previous roles, she has established positive relationships with faculty, students, parents, and community. Her high energy, unique organizational skills, and self-motivation will contribute to her ability to have a positive impact as a leader for William Perry Elementary School.”
