Staunton VDOT District Traffic Alert: April 20-24

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures April 21 to 23 for bridge deck sweeping, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day and pothole patching 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal, clearing sign areas, replacing object markers, cleaning bridge ditches and slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 311 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Brush cutting, ditching and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole repairs, grading, pipe replacement  and  brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures for bridge deck sweeping, April 20 and 21, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each.

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 53.3 to 55.3, eastbound and westbound.  Eastbound traffic will detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge until late 2015 while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205.1, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, repairing mile marker signs, replacing object markers and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 174 to 205.1, northbound and southbound – Lane closures for pothole patching April 21 to 23, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 175 to 195, northbound – Right shoulder closures at various locations for guardrail upgrades. 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Saturday. Estimated completion June 9, 2015.

Mile marker 196.1, southbound – Be alert for I-81 bridge maintenance work over Route 716 (Mount Atlas Road). Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Mile marker 200.6, southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance work over Route 710 (Sterrett Road).  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Mile marker 205.1, exit 205, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance work over Route 606 (Raphine Road).  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 60 (at Bypass 11/Lexington City Limit) – Lane closure as needed for Route 11 Bypass bridge work over Route 60.Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Sweeping bridges/intersections and trash pickup with a mobile operation.  Brush cutting, patching, pothole repairs, pipe replacement and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 (Raphine Road at I-81exit 205) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge maintenance work.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 710 (Sterrett Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance work.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 716 (Mount Atlas Road) – Flagger controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed for I-81 bridge maintenance work.  Monday through Thursday, Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 250 – Brush cutting, patching and pipe replacement at various locations with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Upper Backcreek Road) Pipe replacement with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 607 (Big Valley Road) Patching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South), Route 615 (Davis Run Road) and Route 617 (Seldom Seen Road) and other various roads Pavement repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 631 (Rich Hills Road) Road repairs with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Possible left or right shoulder closures for installation of underground conduit system in median. Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion September 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures for pothole patching April 21 to 23, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile marker signs, replacing object markers, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 207 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Mile marker 209.2 – Right shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 671 (Alamo Chapel Road) bridge over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Mile marker 216.2 – Shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 655 bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Mile marker 219.9 – Shoulder closures as needed for repairs on Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Mile marker 228.4 – Shoulder closures as needed for Route 781 (Mill Race Road) bridge work over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 (Little Calf Pasture Highway) – Flagger-controlled traffic for shoulder and guardrail improvements. Work zone from Route 254 in Buffalo Gap area to Route 685 (Craigsville). Monday – Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 26, 2015.

Route 250 (Hanky Mountain Highway), westbound Traffic restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signal during bridge replacement. Work zone is 0.61 miles west of Route 728 to 0.43 miles west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

(NEW) Route 340 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Route 340 – Right shoulder closures as needed at various locations for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 340/635 Intersection– Lane shifts and shoulder closures for gas line installation on northbound shoulder.  Estimated completion October 23, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Augusta Farms Subdivision (Stuarts Draft) – Paving on Stubblefield Road (Route 1522), Hayrick Road (Route 1523), Buckboard Road (Route 1536), Ox Road (Route 1545) and Wagon Circle (Route 1546) in subdivision off Route 635.  Monday to Thursday, April 27 to April 30, weather permitting.

Route 608 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Lane closures with flagger traffic control for intersection improvements at Route 648. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 620 (Spottswood Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for repairs on Route 620 bridge over I-81. Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project west of Route 285.

Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 648 (Christians Creek Road) Alternating lane closures with flaggers for intersection improvements at Route 648/Route 608 intersection.  Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule will resume. Estimated completion May 31, 2015.

Route 655 (Walnut Hills Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge repairs over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 671 (Alamo Chapel Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge repairs over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

(NEW) Route 696 (Crattan Hill Road, Burketown area) – Road closed April 20 to May 7 for box culvert installation between Route 719 and Route 690.  Property owners will have access to their property during closure. Detours: from the south end of Route 696, travel east to Route 690 (Summit Church Road), north on Route 11 (Lee Highway), then west on Route 727 (Airport Road) back onto Route 696.  Drivers approaching from the north end of Route 696 travel onto Route 727 east (Airport Road), south on Route 11 (Lee Highway) and then west on Route 690 (Summit Church Road) back to Route 696.

Route 781 (Mill Race Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge work over I-81.  Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 801 (Hangers Mill Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) and Route 835 (Hotchkiss Road) for bridge replacement. Traffic will follow the posted detour. Local traffic will have access during construction. Estimated completion October 2015.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Pothole repairs as needed. Debris removal and shoulder repairs.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 33 Business (Town of Elkton) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for bridge inspection over South Fork Shenandoah River. April 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 257 – Flagger-controlled lane closures for paving and pavement marking from Route 744 (Dry Hollow Road) to Route 738 (West Dry River Road).  Monday to Saturday.  Estimated completion April 30.

Route 340 (Town of Elkton) – Periodic flagger-controlled lane closures for sidewalk and road improvement project. Work zone 0.01 miles north of F Street to 0.18 miles south of East Street.  Monday through Friday.  Estimated completion Sept. 18, 2015.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 602 (East Point Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for bridge inspection over South Fork Shenandoah River. April 20, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 610 (Runions Creek Road) – “Stop and proceed” travel restricted to single lane 24/7 for road widening and box culvert installation over Runions Creek tributary.  Work zone 0.90 miles north of Route 612 (Sours Run Road) to 5.40 miles south of the Shenandoah County line.  Estimated completion May 8.

Route 618– Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for milling, paving and pavement marking from Route 42 to Route 211.  Monday through Saturday.  Estimated completion April 30.

(NEW) Route 649 (Island Ford Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure over South Fork Shenandoah River for bridge inspection. April 22, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 704 (Boyers Road) – Travel lane shift about 0.4 mile south of Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) due to earth-moving work for Southeast Connector project.  This traffic pattern will remain in place 24/7 until connector road opens.

(NEW) Route 708 (Lynwood Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure over South Fork Shenandoah River for bridge inspection. April 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 753 (Kratzer Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for pavement marking from Route 42 (Harpine Highway) to Route 780 (Lindale Road).  Monday through Saturday.  Estimated completion April 20.

(NEW) Mannheim Court (Route 1071) and Lake Pointe Drive (Route 1072) in Massanetta Springs area – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving and pavement marking from Route 687 to cul-de-sac. Monday through Saturday.  Estimated completion April 30.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 340 – Flagger controlled lane closure over Cub Run for bridge inspection. April 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 – Right southbound lane closed between Route 631 (Middleburg Road) and Route 713 (Vista View Drive) for utility work on April 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 602 (Comertown Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving operations.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 24.

(NEW) Route 603 (Fleeburg Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving operations.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 24.

(NEW) Route 618 (Dovel Hollow Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving operations.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion April 28.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Pothole repairs as needed.  Debris removal and fence repair.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) – Flagger controlled lane closures for bridge inspection over North Fork Shenandoah River. April 22, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Routes 17/50 (Millwood Pike) – Southbound right lane closure over Opequon Creek for bridge inspection. April 20, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 55 (Front Royal Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure over North Fork Shenandoah River for bridge inspection. April 24, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 717 (Alum Springs Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure for paving operations.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion May 1.

(NEW) Route 720 (Wissler Road) – Road closed 1.30 miles north of Route 614 (South Middle Road) and 0.92 miles south of Route 263 (Orkney Grade Road) for bridge deck replacement. Closure begins at 8 a.m. April 20.  Detours:  Southbound traffic will travel east on Route 263 to south on Route 614 to end of detour.  Northbound traffic will travel north on Route 614 to west on Route 262 to end of detour. Estimated completion May 1.

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stony Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated project completion June 2015.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Pothole patching, pipe cleaning and shoulder work.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours.  Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Exit 300, southbound Single lane closure on exit ramp to I-66 for bridge work. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Possible 24-hour lane closures Monday, April 20 and Wednesday, April 22 (rain dates April 21 and 23). These 24-hour closures will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 8 a.m. the following morning. Estimated completion April 27, 2015.  

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Pothole repairs as needed.  Debris removal and shoulder repairs. Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROAD

(NEW) Mulberry Street (Town of Stephens City) – Road closed 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from Fairfax Pike (Route 277) south to Green Street for installation of utilities.  Detour signs will be in place.  Estimated completion is April 24.

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads –  Flagger controlled lane closure for surface treatment operations.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.   Estimated completion April 27.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Pothole patching.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0, eastbound Single lane closure on ramp from I-81southbound to I-66 eastbound for bridge work. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Possible 24-hour lane closures Monday, April 20 and Wednesday, April 22 (rain dates April 21 and 23). These 24-hour closures will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 8 a.m. the following morning. Estimated completion April 27, 2015.

Mile marker 0 to 15 – Pothole repairs as needed. Debris removal and shoulder repairs.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 7, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for bridge work at Shenandoah River, Monday to Thursday with variable schedules of day and night work between 8 a.m. and 4 a.m. the following day. Estimated completion July1, 2015.

 

INTERSTATE 81
(UPDATE) Exit 300,
southbound Single lane closure on exit ramp to I-66 for bridge work. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Possible 24-hour lane closures Monday, April 20 and Wednesday, April 22 (rain dates April 21 and 23). These 24-hour closures will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 8 a.m. the following morning. Estimated completion April 27, 2015.  

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 55 (Front Royal Road) – Flagger controlled lane closure over North Fork Shenandoah River for bridge inspection. April 24, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Access to Route 605 (Poor House Road) at intersection with Route 340 will close April 20.  Follow posted detour signs.  Watch for lane shifts on north and south ends of the bridge replacement project over Gooney Creek. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605. Estimated completion Oct. 2015.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue / Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Additional lane shift and closure of center turn lane from the south end of the bridge to just past 17th Street and closure of 18th Street to through traffic. Through traffic will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Lane shifts on Route 55 just west of Route 340/522. These changes will be in effect through summer 2015.  Estimated bridge completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 605 (Poor House Road) – Road closure at intersection with Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) beginning April 20 as part of the bridge construction over Gooney Creek. Closure remains in place until approximately late June when the new bridge opens to through traffic. Drivers who need access to Route 605 will detour onto Route 607 (Rocky Lane) east and Route 649 (Browntown Road) south to Route 605.

Various roads – Pipe cleaning and pothole patching.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.

Dial 1-800-FOR-ROAD (1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
