Staunton District Traffic Alert: Jan. 18-22

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 41 – Watch for crews removing brush and debris at various locations.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole repairs, brush cutting and shoulder repairs.  Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Pothole repairs at various locations. Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole repairs and ditching.  Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, brush cutting and ditching. Tuesday – Friday,8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 45 to 46, eastbound – Right shoulder closure for slope repair work.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Estimated completion January 29.

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will follow detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate.  Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing signs areas and cleaning around paved ditches, box culverts, drain pipes and drop inlets at various locations, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Northbound shoulder work on Tuesday and Wednesday between mile markers 192 and 194.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 60 (West 29th Street, Buena Vista) – Temporary shoulder closures as needed for sidewalk replacement, paving and guardrail work from Maury River bridge to Beech Avenue and Magnolia Avenue (Route 501) to 6thStreet.  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Pothole repairs, pipe replacement and brush cutting . Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.
Various roads
– Brush cutting, pipe replacement and pothole repairs. Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pothole repairs at various locations. Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 629 (Straight Creek Road) – Shoulder repairs and brush cutting at various locations.  Tuesday – Friday,8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 640/642 (Bluegrass Valley Road) – Pothole patching at various locations. Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews cleaning  bridge slopes, paved ditches and inlets, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Westbound tree removal around traffic cameras at mile marker 87.  Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 98 to 99, eastbound – Lane closure for shoulder work. Wednesday and Thursday, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion February 17, 2016.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris,replacing object markers, cleaning box culverts, drain pipes, paved ditches and drop inlets at various locations. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Northbound tree removal around traffic cameras at mile marker 222, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 222, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for work on bridges over I-64 eastbound ramp. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion January 28.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion February 17, 2016.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures. Shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion February 17, 2016.

Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Shoulder closures for utility work at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road).  Estimated completion January 31.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 ramps Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system.

(UPDATE) Route 685 (Lehigh Road)Road closed to through traffic January 19-22, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., between Route 42 (East Craig Street) and Route 684 (Quarry Road) for tree removal.

Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Intermittent lane closures for utility work between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road).  Estimated completion January 22.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Watch for crews removing debris, repairing damaged slopes, cleaning paved ditches and pipes. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pothole repairs as needed.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Right shoulder closures and occasional lane closures for North River bridge replacement. 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Work zone is from Route 694 to 0.4 miles north of Route 694. Estimated completion July 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) – Flagger controlled shoulder and northbound lane closures for water line installation. Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Work zone is between Route 898 (Pleasants Drive) and Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road). Estimated completion March 31.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300 – Watch for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) –Single lane closure for bridge repairs over Smith Creek.  Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Work zone 0.8 mile to Route 1002 and 0.1 mile to Route 620.  Estimated completion January 28, 2016.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324 – Watch for crews removing debris, litter pickup and cleaning paved ditches.  Monday to Friday.  Pothole repairs as needed.

(UPDATE)  Mile marker 309 to 311, northbound –Right lane closure Monday through Thursday nights, 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning, for relocation of concrete barriers as part of the exit 310 interchange reconstruction project near Winchester.  Right and left shoulders continue to be closed 24/7.  Speed limit of 60 miles per hour in effect throughout the work zone until completion of the exit 310 construction project.  Limited space for traffic to merge onto southbound I-81 due to shortened on-ramp. Motorists should also be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone.  Estimated project completion May 2018.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion April 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction activity at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 15 – Watch for crews removing debris and brush cutting. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through February 2016 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road).  Northbound traffic-lane shifts near intersections of 17th Street and Duck Street.  Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection just north of bridge. Closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17th Street. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street. Estimated project completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
