newspaperA Ruckersville man was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter after an incident reported Friday night on Interstate 64 in Goochland County.

A 1999 Honda Accord was traveling west on I-64 when the driver and passenger got into an argument. The driver, Travis Rios, 24, of Ruckersville, Va. pulled off onto the shoulder near the Hadensville Exit 152 in Goochland County. The passenger, Augusta May Woodward, 40, of Madison, Va., got out of the vehicle.

Rios first drove forward and then backed up the vehicle, striking Woodward. The impact sent Woodward into the rear window of the Honda, shattering it, and she then fell to the ground. Rios stopped the Honda, got out and picked up Woodward to put her inside the vehicle. Rios then continued west on I-64.

When he got to the 149 mile marker, Rios pulled off onto the shoulder and got out of his vehicle again. At this time, other drivers on I-64 began calling into the Virginia State Police dispatch center about a vehicle missing its rear window stopped out on the shoulder.

Woodward was transported to MCV hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.
