Lynchburg District Traffic Alert: May 23-27

road-work-headerHighway work in the Lynchburg District requiring road/lane/structure closures is scheduled, weather permitting.  Traffic may be restricted.  Items in italics contain new/updated information. For     up-to-date information, call 511 or visit www.511Virginia.org.  

 

Amherst County:  

Route 6 and 151 – Sign work may result in delays for motorists. Use caution.

Route 29 Business – Work by signal crew may result in delays.

Route 130 over Pedlar River– Bridge work; traffic control in use. Est. comp. 11/27/17.

Route 163 from John Lynch Bridge to Route 29 Business, Madison Heights area Surface treatment work will take place. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

Route 501/130 (Snowden) – Route 501 from Hunting Club Road and existing James River Bridge, traffic restricted to one lane using traffic control. Expect delays. Completion 4/21/17.   

Route 610 over Muddy Branch (645-738) – Road closed 5/9-5/27 for pipe replacement. Detour will use Rt. 151, 665, and 778.

 

Appomattox County:  

Routes 26 & 131  – Sign work may result in delays for motorists. Use caution.

Route 627 over Suanee Creek (633-601) – Road closed 5/23 – 6/20 for deck replacement. A detour will be in place using Rt. 601, 620,619 and 633.

Various– Plant mix work will take place. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

 

Buckingham County:    

Route 20 over Slate River – Speed reduced during bridge replacement. Est.  comp. – 12/2017.

Routes 15, 20 and  60 – Paving will take place. Delays possible.

 

Campbell County:  

Route 29 North from Rt 1602-863, Route 29 South @ Route 685 intersectionSun., June 12 – Sun., June 26, milling and paving operation from 8 pm to 6 am. Traffic control devices, flaggers and Virginia State Police will assist.

Route 460 Business and Waterlick Rd intersectionSun., June 5– Thursday, June 9, milling and paving operation from 8 pm to 6 am. Traffic control devices, flaggers and Virginia State Police will assist.

Route 501 @ Route 643 and 606 – Surface work. Expect delays.

Route 651 over Bear Creek (Rt. 604-615) – Road closed thru 6/10/16 for structure replacement. Detour via Rt. 606, 615 and back to 651.

Various routes– Surface treatment will take place. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

 

Charlotte County:   

Route 15 @ Route 360, south of Mecklenburg Co. line – Paving begins. Use caution.

Route 40 over Louse Creek – Be alert to equipment entering/exiting roadway.

 

Cumberland County:  

No report

 

Halifax County:  

Route 58 East – Paving will begin at the Pittsylvania Co. line on April 25.

Routes 58, 360 & 501– Line work may result in delays for motorists.

Route 501 @ Rt. 40 and 632 – Construction of right turn lanes to take place.

Route 501 @ Route 129, Town of South Boston – Intersection construction will begin on May 23 and last approx.. 3 weeks. Please contact the Town of South Boston will any questions.

Route 613 over Branch of Banister River (360-360)– Road will be closed 6/13 – 9/23 for structure replacement. Detour will use Route 360.

Route 716 over Banister River – Road closed to construct bridge and approaches.

Various –Crews will make surface repairs, mow and respond to customer requests.

 

Lynchburg:

Route 29/460 Corridor eastbound and westbound from Concord Turnpike to Candlers Mtn Rd:  The speed reduced to 45 mph for construction throughout the corridor starting April 26.

Route 29/460 (501-29)– Construction traffic entering/exiting roadway. Weather permitting, lane closures will be in place on Saturdays until further notice. Use caution. Est. comp. 11/16/17

Route 29/460 (Odd Fellows Rd Int. and Odd Fellows Rd.)– Be alert to construction traffic entering/exiting roadway. Use caution. Est. comp. 8/3/18.  45 mph speed limit.

 

Nelson County:  

Route 6 and 151 – Sign work may result in delays for motorists. Use caution.

Route 56 – Latex paving will take place. Delays possible.

 

Pittsylvania County:  

Route 29 S bridge over Norfolk-Southern Railroad –Bridge replacement. Rt. 29/803 connection temporarily relocated. Southbound traffic detoured to a northbound lane later this summer. Estimated completion June 20, 2017.

Route 29, 40, 41 and other locations – Surface work will take place.

Route 628 over Straightstone Creek (Rt. 900-937) –Closed thru 6/3/16 for structure replacement. Detour via Rt. 640, 900 and back to 628.

Route 638 over Branch of Beechtree Creek – Road closed approximately 4 weeks beginning 5/16/16 for pipe replacement. Detour via Route 668 to 640. Est. comp. 6/10/16.

Route 685 over Stinking Creek (40-670) – Road closed for approximately 14 weeks beginning 5/9/16 for bridge replacement. Detour will use Rt. 670, 630 and 40.

Route 968 over Sandy Creek (726-970) – Road closed 5/23 – 8/12 for structure replacement. A detour will be in place using Rt. 726, 58, and 970 back to 968.

Brosville, Kentuck and Rondo AHQ – Crews will ditch. 

Gretna and Rondo AHQ – Crews will clean debris. 

Kentuck & Mt. Airy AHQ  – Crews will work shoulders and boom axe. 

Kentuck AHQ – Crews will trim limbs.

Rondo AHQ – Crews will clean pipe.

Various –Crews will mow, boom axe and respond to customers.

 

Prince Edward County:  

Route 602 over Little Saylers Creek (460-617) –Closed beginning 6/6/16 for timber deck replacement. Detour via 617 to 602.

Route 619 over Saylers Creek – Crews will construct bridge and approaches. Comp.  11/2016. Road closed; detour in place.

Route 632 over Bush River (633-630) –Closed for structure replacement. Detour via Routes 633, 15, 647and 630. Est. comp. 5/20.

Route 633 over Norfolk-Southern Railroad-Bridge repairs; lane width 13’ with 1-way traffic using a temporary signal. Work will take approximately 3 months to complete.

 

District-wide activities: 

Bridge maintenance – Bridge washing operations will result in lane closures on various bridges.

Guardrail maintenance – Crews will do guardrail maintenance. 

Pavement markings –Pavement markings will be eradicated in anticipation of paving. Caution is urged.

Pipe replacement and rehabilitation – Work at various locations with lane closures possible.
