staunton2editsRetailers at five Phillips Edison & Company-owned shopping center locations in Maryland and Virginia will host a series of free movie nights throughout the summer to engage consumers and foster community involvement.

Family-friendly activities including beanbag tosses, ladder ball, face painting and sidewalk chalk, will be available for guests to enjoy. The GIANT Food Store at Collington Plaza in Bowie, Maryland, has hired a comic book company to have characters dress up as The Avengers for their screening on August 29.  They will also be giving out Avengers comics and hosting an Avengers costume contest. Retailers at the centers join in the fun by donating food, drinks and store discounts for guests to enjoy before the start of the movie.

The following centers will be hosting movie nights:

Maryland:

  • La Plata Plaza & La Plata North in La Plata, MD will be screening The Avengers on August 21
  • Burwood Village Glen in Burnie, MD will be screening The Avengers on August 22
  • Collington Plaza in Bowie, MD will be screening The Avengers on August 29

Virginia:

  • Staunton Plaza (1015 Richmond Road) will be screening The Avengers on August 28
  • Village at Waterford in Midlothian, VA will be screening The Avengers on September 12

“Shopping centers are often a central gathering place of a community, and we feel that events that provide fun, family-friendly activities like movie nights are a great way to get the residents of the town together and foster a sense of community encouraging everyone to meet and interact with neighbors and build trust between retailers and their consumers,” said Cherilyn Megill, vice president of marketing and communications for Phillips Edison & Company.

Additional screenings will be held throughout the fall. Dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
