Culpeper District Traffic Alerts: Sept. 7-11

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

VDOT will suspend most highway work zones for several days during the Labor Day holiday travel period to provide as many travel lanes as possible. Lane closures will be lifted on interstates and other major roads from noon Friday, Sept. 4, until noonTuesday, Sept. 8. For more details, read the news release.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing excavation work near the ramp, grading in the median and constructing a retaining wall at the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • On Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound right lane will be closed from Angus Road to Earhart Street.
  • On Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the ramp to Route 250 Bypass west will be closed.
  • Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. and on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., intermittent left-turn lane and crossover closures will occur between Earhart Street and Hydraulic Road.
  • Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. and on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the westbound Route 250 Bypass right lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Barracks Road.
  • On Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the northbound right lane will be closed from Morton Drive to Route 250.

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Temporary crossovers and signals will be installed and utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection.

  • Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., two left lanes closed on southbound Route 29 from Rio Road to Twentyninth Place Court.
  • Thursday and Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., two right lanes closed on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to the entrance to Albemarle Square.
  • On Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., two right lanes closed with traffic shifts on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to the entrance to Albemarle Square.
  • Tuesday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., right-turn lane closed from Rio Road to Route 29 north.
  • On Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., alternating lanes closed on southbound Route 29 from Woodbrook Drive to the entrance to Albemarle Square.
  • On Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the temporary signals at Berkmar Drive and Myers Drive will be activated. The intersections at Fashion Square Drive and Albemarle Square will be permanently closed. Read more.
  • On Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., three right lanes closed with traffic shifts on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to Myers Drive.

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Survey work, installation of concrete barriers and paving work.

  • Tuesday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., left lane closed on southbound Route 29 from Towncenter Drive to Rio Mills Road.
  • Tuesday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., left lane closed on northbound Route 29 from Rio Mills Road to North Hollymead Drive.

(UPDATE) Adaptive traffic signal control system – Rebuilding signal at Berkmar Drive and Woodbrook Drive.

  • Tuesday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the right-turn lane will be closed on eastbound Woodbrook Drive.

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Deck resurfacing of I-64 bridge over Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Alternating eastbound lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Interstate 64 – Mobile trimming and roadside maintenance operations will require eastbound and westbound shoulder closures between mile markers 124 and 147.5, and between mile markers 99 and 124. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Nov. 5.

(UPDATE) Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

(UPDATE) Route 20 (Stony Point Road) – Installation of pavement markers. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., traffic reduced to one lane from Route 250 (Richmond Road) to Route 621 (Wolf Trap Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Constructing right-turn lane at Route 729 (Milton Road). Tuesday fromnoon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., westbound lane closed with traffic controlled by flagging. Expect delays. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

(NEW) Route 250 (Richmond Road) – Beginning overnight Tuesday, crews will install a flashing yellow arrow signal at Route 22 (Louisa Road). The work will require one to two nights to complete. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, but motorists should use caution approaching the intersection and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

Route 616 (Black Cat Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with traffic detoured via Route 250 (Richmond Road). Anticipated completion Oct. 15.

(NEW) Route 631 (5th Street) – Milling and paving from Route 1870 (Ambrose Commons Drive) to approximately 0.2 mile north of the Interstate 64 overpass. Tuesday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by arrow board and uniformed police officers. Obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

(NEW) Route 654 (Barracks Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Intermittent lanes closed near Route 1001 (Colthurst Drive) on Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road), which will be narrowed to one lane near the intersection,then left onto Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) and out to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

(NEW) Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) – Paving of gravel road. Wednesday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur along the route. Obey traffic controls.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 53, 627, 676, 727, 728, 743 – Mowing.
  • Routes 626, 636, 679, 726, 737 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 635, 668, 743 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 636, 637, 691, 736 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Grading and clearing operations from Route 788 (Lignum Road) to just west of Route 739 (Clay Hills Road). Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone between Route 788 and just west of Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road). Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and trucks entering and exiting the highway.

(UPDATE) Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) – Pavement patching. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from about 0.3 mile north of Route 663 (Alanthus Road) to Route 676 (Beverly Ford Road/Berry Hill Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur on Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 in the work zone. Motorists should be alert and use caution through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 655 (Somerville Road) – Paving of gravel road from Route 689 (Cedar Run Road) to Route 652 (Mitchell Road). Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur with traffic controlled by flagging.

(UPDATE) Route 748 (Bruces Lane) – Paving of gravel road from Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) to the end of state maintenance. Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur with traffic controlled by flagging.

(UPDATE) Route 775 (Ferguson Lane) – Paving of gravel road from Route 621 (Jeffersonton Road) to the end of state maintenance. Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur with traffic controlled by flagging.

  • Routes 610, 647 – Shoulder repair and ditching
  • Route 620 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 620, 680, 689 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 723 – Mowing.
  • Route 680 – Pipe replacement.

 

 

Fauquier County

(UPDATE) Interstate 66 – Bridge repairs near mile marker 22. Alternating eastbound lanes closed Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Expect brief delays.

(NEW) Interstate 66 – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

(UPDATE) Route 17 (Winchester Road) – Roadway resurfacing. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from Route 777 (Old Zion Road) to just south of the bridge over Interstate 66. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 17 (Marsh Road) – Roadside maintenance and tree trimming. On Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the southbound right lane will be closed between Route 805 (Bealeton Road) and Route 806 (Elk Run Road). Motorists should use caution through the work zone and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Crews will install a flashing yellow arrow signal at Route 28 (Catlett Road) and Route 651 (Freemans Ford Road). The work will require one to two nights to complete. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, but motorists should use caution approaching the intersection and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(UPDATE) Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent shoulder closures will occur on Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anticipated completion July 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 742 (Wheatley School Road) – Paving of gravel road. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) to the end of state maintenance, Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

 

Route 752 (Sillamon Road) – Replacement of bridge over Deep Run. Road closed at the bridge, approximately one mile east of Route 617 (Blackwells Mill Road) near Goldvein. Motorists should use posted detour via Route 617. Anticipated completion Oct. 1.

  • Routes 17, 616 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 622, 732, 736 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 622, 628, 629, 674, 681, 682, 683, 688, 704, 705, 761 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 645, 647, 688, 770 – Mowing.
  • Route 726 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion Nov. 20.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 613, 619, 620, 624, 630, 631, 632, 636, 638, 645, 659, 660, 694, 1010, 1011 – Mowing.

 

 

Greene County

Route 629 (Welsh Run Road) – Replacement of bridge over Welsh Run. Road closed at the bridge. Through traffic will use the following detour: Route 629 to Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) to Route 617 (Dunnes Shop Road) to Route 633 (Amicus Road) and back to Route 629. Anticipated completion Sept. 11.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 33 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 605 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 617, 623, 633, 743, 810 – Mowing.
  • Route 629 – Pipe replacement.

 

 

Louisa County

(UPDATE) Route 677 (Goodwins Store Road) – Paving of gravel road. Tuesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur along the route. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 709 (Blueberry Lane) – Paving of gravel road. On Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur along the route. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Various routes – Paving and line striping at the locations listed below. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 601 (Bumpass Road) – From Route 701 to Route 701.
  • Route 631 (Windyknight Road) – From Route 33 to the Hanover County line.
  • Route 673 (Lewis Hill Lane) – From Route 654 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 701 (Belle Meade Road) – From Route 655 to Route 618.
  • Route 715 (Bumpass Road) – From Route 601 to the Hanover County line.
  • Route 739 (Plum Tree Road) – From Route 652 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1200 (Plum Tree Circle) – From Route 739 to Route 739.
  • Route 1201 (Bear Castle Drive) – From Route 690 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1202 (Lake Court) – From Route 1201 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1212 (Thelma Lane) – From Route 652 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1213 (Hollyoak Lane) – From Route 1212 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1220 (Barbara Road) – From Route 614 to Route 1221.
  • Route 1221 (Connie Lane) – From Route 1220 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1232 (Tara Woods Drive) – From Route 690 to Route 1233.
  • Route 1281 (Sunrise Court) – From Route 1280 to the end of state maintenance.

Madison County

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Monroe Highway) – Pavement patching. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from 0.7 mile north of Route 678 (Tibbs Shop Road) to 0.3 mile south of Route 612 (James City Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • Routes 600, 611, 642, 670 – Mowing.

Orange County

(NEW) Route 231 (Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation just north of Route 726 (Pumphouse Road). Alternating lanes closed with flagging on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Obey traffic controls

(NEW) Route 661 (Daniel Road) – Application of roadway surface treatment from Route 612 (Monrovia Road) to the end of the road. Alternating lane closures with flagging will occur on Tuesday from 7 to 11 a.m. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 2014 (Knolls Road) – Application of roadway surface treatment from Route 20 (Constitution Highway) to the end of the road. Alternating lane closures with flagging will occur on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to noon.

(NEW) Route 2015 (Walters Road) – Application of roadway surface treatment from Route 20 (Constitution Highway) to the end of the road. Alternating lane closures with flagging will occur on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 33, 522, 610, 647, 655 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 231 – Pipe replacement.
  • Routes 602, 606, 629, 689 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 639, 661, 1081, 2014, 2015 – Surface treatment.

 

 

Rappahannock County

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing in Rappahannock, Culpeper and Fauquier counties from Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) to the town of Warrenton. Mobile lane closures will occur Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Pavement patching. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from about 0.8 mile south of Route 655 (Short Road) to about 0.4 mile north or Route 231 (FT Valley Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.
