businessFreelancing is on the rise. It’s estimated that 38% of full-time staff around the country will become remote workers, and that has led to a need for home office environments.

Paul Farmer of https://www.woodtex.com/ has spent years providing outbuildings in the US to his clients, but he has noticed that demand has increased because of how many entrepreneurs need them for their businesses.

And it should come as no surprise considering the fact that Virginia was named as the 5th best state to do business in the country.

So what should you be looking for in a timber outbuilding in Augusta?

What Makes a Good Timber Outbuilding?

Paul says that a good timber outbuilding is built to last. When treated well with quality timber, it will last for well over twenty years before you need to consider replacing it.

But it’s about so much more than the specific type of outbuilding you buy. There’s lots of different materials and constructions options.

For example, Paul says that clients may choose from diverse structures, such as the Sandford and the Lincoln. But what matters is how well you maintain your outbuilding over time.

Are you following the necessary maintenance steps and solving problems like termites, rotting, and other hazards before they grow?

Why Getting the Right Permission Matters

Georgia may be a state with a lot of freedoms, but you need to be aware of building permits in Augusta.

Paul explains that you need a building permit if the cost of the project materials is over $500. That means for any timber outbuilding you will need to work with your contractor to get the necessary permit and ensure you aren’t breaking any laws.

Augusta tends to take building permits extremely seriously, according to Paul.

Look at the Plans

Make sure you have a plan in place before parting with your money. Paul says that accurate measurements of your yard have to be taken.

Then the technical aspects of your yard have to be measured. Is there a risk of flooding? Does your existing Internet connection extend to the site? Will you have problems connecting water and/or electricity to the outbuilding?

These are the questions you need to answer before you start building.

Consider the Materials at Your Disposal

There’s more than basic timber at your disposal. Paul says you should go out of your way to look at some of the materials available.

These materials include:

  • Architectural shingles
  • Metal roofing
  • High-quality lumber
  • Long-lasting exterior paints & stains
  • Dry products

Different materials have different lifespans, are easier to work with, and can change the appearance of your outbuilding.

Last Word – Get the Right Timber Outbuilding for You

Regardless of your reason for wanting to create a brand new timber outbuilding, you should go out of your way to hire the right contractor for you.

More important than your outbuilding is your choice of contractor. Paul advises you to work with them to create an action plan for your ideal outbuilding.

What do you want to use your new timber outbuilding for?
