VMI pitcher Connor Bach taken in 21st round of MLB Draft
VMI pitcher Connor Bach was selected by the washington nationals in the 21st round of the MLB draft, which took place Saturday afternoon via conference call. Bach was VMI’s second draftee of the day, following Reed Garrett’s 16th round selection by the texas rangers.
Bach comes off a senior season in which he served primarily as VMI’s Saturday starter and held opponents to a .243 batting average in that role. His breakout junior season of 2013 saw him throw 83 innings, post a stellar 2.81 ERA and limit opposing hitters to a .207 batting average. Bach is the first Keydet to be selected by either the Nationals or their previous incarnation, the Montreal Expos, in program history.
With the selection of both Garrett and Bach, 2014 marks the ninth time in program history the Keydets have had multiple players drafted in a single season. The program record is three selections, which occurred in both the 2003 and 2008 drafts.
