VDOT road-work report

Contributors

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton Transportation District during the coming weeks.

The Staunton District is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies.

Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, clean ditches and shoulder repair. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 7.3 to 16.5, eastbound and westbound – Median Guardrail Installation Project. Single-lane traffic and shoulder closures, Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion is Nov. 30.

 

Primary Roads

* Main Street (Route 60, Clifton Forge) – Smith Creek Bridge replacement project – Main Street, westbound from the intersection of Ridgeway Street to Commercial Avenue will be closed September 8, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Westbound traffic will detour onto Ridgeway Street. Ridgway Street, eastbound and westbound, will have two-way traffic during this time. Bridge construction will occur from September 19, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Main Street closed between Route 60/220 and Commercial Avenue. Detour signs through the area using Business Route 60 and West Ridgeway Street.

* Various roads – Mowing, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 633 – Replacement of Cowpasture River Bridge and approaches from 1.46 miles south of Route 634 to 1.14 miles south of Route 634. Be alert for flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 17, 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing, patching, ditch cleaning and pipe installation. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 42 – Patching at various locations. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 220 – Patching at various locations. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Patching and ditching. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (NEW) Mile marker 54 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Inspection of bridges over Maury River and Kerrs Creek. Single lane closures, Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Mile marker 57 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch cleaning and rock removal from shoulders. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 195.6 to 202.5, northbound – Truck climbing lane project. A traffic shift will detour vehicles from exit 95 onto Route 11 through Fairfield, then taking a left onto Route 710 to get back onto I-81 at exit 200. The detour will occur on Aug. 14 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. The left lane will be closed to move barrier from mile marker 195 to 202, Aug. 15 and 16, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 – Utility project at Route 763 (Lincoln Road). Install water transmission line on northwest shoulder of Route 763 for 0.60 mile to the intersection of Route 11. Installation will continue on the east should of Route 11 northbound for 1.23 miles. Work includes boring at the intersection of Route 763 and across all lanes of Route 11 to the west shoulder of the southbound lanes. Estimated completion is late August.

* Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 39 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Mowing with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 612 (Blue Grass Trail) – Road bank stabilization work located .64-mile north of Route 662 (Springbranch Road).  Single lane traffic with flagger traffic control, August 13 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.  Alternate work date is August 14 .

* Route 666 (Bell Road) – Waterline work. Road closed during daylight hours between Route 60 (West Midland Trail) to Route 670 (Borden Road) during daylight hours. Closure begins on July 17 and will last approximately four weeks.

* Route 684 (Tinkerville Road) – Culvert replacement and minor ditch repairs from 1500-feet west of the intersection of Route 813 (North Dry Well Road). Road closed, Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Inclement weather date is Wednesday. Motorists are asked to avoid this area. Traffic may use Route 813 as a detour.

*Various roads – Pothole repairs, pipe replacement, grading and mowing. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 220 – Application of Krenite S for brush control from Route 607 north to 0.10 miles south of Route 606. Aug. 13 to Sept. 21.

* Route 250 – Application of Krenite S for brush control from Route 616 to top of Bullpasture Mountain. Aug. 13 to Sept. 21.

* Route 250 – Application of Krenite S for brush control from Augusta County line to 2.00 miles west of Augusta County line. Aug. 13 to Sept. 21.

* Route 250 – Replacement of bridge over Crab Run in McDowell, from 0.01 mile east of Route 645 to 0.014 miles west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road). Single-lane traffic with 14-foot width restriction and three-way traffic signal at Route 250 and intersection of Route 654. Flagger traffic control at various locations when needed. Work may take place 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 25 mph. Estimated completion is October.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 611 – Application of Krenite S for brush control from Route 220 to Red Gate/Cattle Guard. Aug. 13 to Sept. 21.

* Route 614 – Application of Krenite S for brush control from Route 250 to Route 616. Aug. 13 to Sept. 21.

* Route 619 – Application of Krenite S for brush control from 0.873 miles east of Route 654 to 2.00 miles east of Route 654. Aug. 13 to Sept. 21.

* Route 633 – Application of Krenite S for brush control from Route 634 to cattleguard 0.35 miles in. Aug. 13 to Sept. 21.

* Route 634 – Application of Krenite S for brush control from 0.10 miles before end of state maintenance to 0.20 miles from end of state maintenance. Aug. 13 to Sept. 21.

* (NEW) Route 654 (Doe Hill Road, McDowell) – Replacement of bridge over Bull Pasture River tributary, from 0.48 mile south of Route 617 (Seldom Scene Road) and 0.33 mile north of Route 645 (Mansion House Road). Flagger traffic control, Aug. 20 to Sept. 12, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic controlled by stop and proceed sign during non-work zone hours.

* Various roads – Road surface repairs and patching, Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (NEW) Mile marker 96.77 to 86.97, westbound – Milling, paving and striping main line. Single lane closure, weeknights, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 96.77 to 91, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder paving and guardrail placement. Right shoulder closure.

* Mile marker 97.1 to 106.4, eastbound and westbound – Afton Mountain Guardrail Project. Right shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Milling and paving night work. Alternating lane closures, week nights, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch cleaning and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 228 to 229, northbound – Inspection of bridge over Middle River. Single lane closures, Wednesday, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 (Haul Road Crossing) – Road work 500-feet north of Route 256. Flagger traffic control, Aug. 13 to 17.

* Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Route 262 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 340 – Delphine Avenue Project. Rebuilding roadway and pouring curb and gutter on east side of Delphine Avenue at intersection of 4th Street. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 737 (Dryden Road) – Bridge replacement. Road closed at bridge. Work zone is 0.72 mile west of Route 42 (Scenic Highway) to 1.05 mile east of Route 736 (Jennings Branch Road). Detour: From bridge head east to Route 42 (Scenic Highway). Detour is 3.30 miles. Access to homes and property is provided throughout the project. Work is July 30 from 7:45 a.m. to Aug. 17.

* Route 758 (George Walton Road) – Concert mat installation at river crossing. Road closed to thru traffic, Aug. 6 to 21.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 237.51 to 263.9, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ramp cleaning, mowing and brush cutting. Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (North Valley Pike) – Pipe installation from Route 865 (Gravels Road) to Route 963 (Windy Knoll Drive). Intermittent lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Traffic controlled by pilot truck.

* (NEW) Route 33 – Milling, paving, line painting and shoulder stone from Route 981 to 2.30 miles west of Green County line. Single lane closure and occasional shoulder closures, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Line painting, weeknights, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Route 33, westbound (Rawley Pike) – Waterline installation at intersection of Route 726. Shoulder closed, weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 33 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Stone Spring Road – Erickson Avenue/Stone Spring Road Connector Project from Route 11 to Port Republic Road. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is spring 2013.

* Route 609 (Naked Creek Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 (Fleeburg Road, Page County) and Route 609. Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On May 22, the traffic pattern will shift from the existing bridge on Route 603 to a temporary bridge during construction of the permanent structure. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Waterline installation from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Harrisonburg City limits. Intermittent lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.

* Route 800 (American Legion Drive) – Box culvert replacement from Route 618 (Lone Pine Drive to Route 42 (South Main Street). Road closed. Estimated completion is Aug. 21.

* Route 1421 (Springbrook Road, Town of Broadway) – Replacement of bridge over Linville Creek from 0.275 miles west of Route 42 (South Main Street) to Route 42. Signalization upgrade at intersection of Route 42. Possible single lane closures controlled by flaggers Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion is April 30, 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.4 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 603 (Fleeburg Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 and Route 609 (Naked Creek Road). Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, was permanently closed on May 23. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 263.9 to 298, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, mowing and brush cutting. Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

No lane closures reported.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 623 – Back Road Project. Construction of new alignment Route 638 and Route 623, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to7 p.m. Estimated completion is fall 2012.

* Route 698 (Turkey Knob Road/Orchard Drive) – Bridge repairs and maintenance from 0.10 miles south of Route 263 (Orkney Grade) in the Mount Jackson area. Road closed. Detour posted. Estimated completion is Aug. 31.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch cleaning and brush cutting. Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 313 to 315, northbound and southbound – In conjunction with the Route 657/Senseny Road Bridge deck replacement work. Shoulder closures and intermittent nighttime lane closures beginning Feb. 20 for installation of barrier for shoulder closures. Estimated completion is mid-August.

* (NEW) Mile marker 318, northbound – Inspection of bridge over Route 11. Single lane closures, Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11, northbound and southbound – Inspection of I-81 bridge over Route 11. Single lane closures, Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 11 – Storm culvert replacement from Route 37 southbound off ramp to Route 1090.  Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 37, northbound and southbound – Paving at the Route 11, Route 622 and Route 50 ramps. Ramps closed intermittently, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured around ramps with signs and police assistance. Estimated completion is Aug. 31.

* Route 50, eastbound – Paving from Winchester City limits to Clarke County line. Alternating lane closures, Monday night to Saturday morning, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Estimated completion is August 16.

* (NEW) Route 37, northbound and southbound – Inspection of Route 621 bridge over Route 37. Single lane closures, Friday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

* Various roads – Bridge deck cleaning and washing. Single-lane traffic controlled by arrow board, Monday night to Friday night, 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 621, northbound and southbound – Inspection of bridge over Route 37. Single lane closures, Friday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

* Route 657 (Senseny Road, Winchester) – Deck replacement work on bridge over I-81 from Millwood Pike (Route 522/50/17) and Berryville Pike (Route 7). Single-lane traffic with 10.5-foot width restriction, controlled by temporary signals. Estimated completion is mid-August.

* Various roads – Bridge deck cleaning and washing. Single-lane traffic controlled by arrow board, Monday night to Friday night, 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Paving operations. Flagger traffic control, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. Estimated completion is Oct. 1.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 7 Business (West Main Street) – Mosby Boulevard Project. Construction of Route 636/Mosby Boulevard extension and round about. Flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 2013.

* Various roads – Bridge deck cleaning and washing. Single-lane traffic controlled by arrow board, Monday night to Friday night, 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 644 (Featherbed Road) – Bride replacement at the intersection of Route 658 (White Post Road). Road closed beginning Aug. 6. Estimated completion is late August. Detour posted.

* Various roads – Bridge deck cleaning and washing. Single-lane traffic controlled by arrow board, Monday night to Friday night, 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Paving operations. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5p.m. Estimated completion is Oct. 1.

 

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66

* Mile marker 0 to 13, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and brush cutting, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

No lane closures reported.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.

For other assistance call the VDOT Customer Service Center, available 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week.
