Unemployment continued to inch upward in July in Staunton and Waynesboro, while the rate in Augusta was down slightly from where it was in June.
Figures released by the Virginia Employment Commission on Wednesday had unemployment in Staunton in July at 6.5 percent, up from 6.3 percent in June and 6.1 percent in May.
Waynesboro’s unemployment rate was at 7.2 percent in July, up from 7.1 percent in June and 6.5 percent in May.
The rate in Augusta County was down slightly in July – at 5.6 percent, versus 5.7 percent in June. The unemployment rate in Augusta was at 5.2 percent in May.
