Investigators are trying to piece together the details of an apparent murder-suicide overnight in Augusta County.
Susan Marie Clifton, 29, was found dead, and her live-in boyfriend, Shawn Lee Carter, 31, died shortly after Augusta County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene at their 1329 Jerusalem Chapel Road, Churchville, home.
According to a police report, Clifton called 911 at approximately 10:19 p.m. Wednesday to report that she was being physically assaulted by Carter.
Clifton told the 911 dispatcher that she was nine months pregnant.
Deputies arrived on the scene and found Carter on top of Clifton’s lifeless body, and Carter suffering from an apparent self-inflicted stab wound to the chest.
Lifesaving efforts were made, but Carter died a short time later.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
