vmiThe Wofford Terriers shot 17 of 21 from three-point range, including a 9 of 10 performance from Fletcher Magee, en route to a 92-60 win over the VMI Keydets in SoCon basketball action Monday night in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Keydets (6-17, 1-11 SoCon) had battled back from a 12-point deficit to climb back within two, and were still within six at 29-23 with 5:33 left in the first half. Eric Garcia hit a three-pointer for the Terriers (12-13, 8-4) on their ensuing possession, however, and that started a 16-2 run that put the game out of reach.

Magee led Wofford with 34 points on 11 of 13 shooting, while three other Terriers were in double figures. The Keydets were led by Phillip Anglade and Jordan Weethee, who posted 13 points apiece.

After the home team hit three’s on seven consecutive possessions to fuel the game-turning run, the Keydets got no closer than 17 the rest of the way. The Terriers took a 21-point lead late in the first half, and VMI closed the margin to less than 20 on just one occasion in the second half.

Wofford finished the game 32 of 52 from the floor (61.5%) and 17 of 21 (81.0%) from long range, including 13 of 16 in the first half. Wofford was 11 of 13 (84.6%) from the foul line. The Keydets finished 22 of 53 (41.5%) and 7 of 25 (28.0%), and 9 of 13 from the foul line (69.2%).

VMI basketball will return to action Thursday, when the Keydets play host to the Spartans of UNCG. Action gets underway at 7 p.m.
