Staunton District Traffic Alert: March 5-9

road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 610 (Bennettown Road) – Flagger-controlled traffic for Rural Rustic project with pipe replacements at various locations. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Flagger traffic control as needed through March 9 during preparations for Jackson River bridge replacement. Road scheduled to close Monday, March 12, between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Detour route will be posted. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Occasional flagging operations as needed near Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) and I-64 for intersection improvements. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

(NEW) Route 850 (North Mountain Road) – Alternating lane closures for bridge maintenance over Simpson Creek near Alleghany/Rockbridge county line. March 5-9, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

(NEW) Various roads – Flagger-controlled traffic for brush cutting and tree removal at various locations. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 220 (Hot Springs Road) – Alternating lane closures for brush removal from Route 648 (Talbots Lane) to Alleghany County line. March 5-9, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Various roads – Brush cutting and pothole repairs at various locations with mobile work zones. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 56 (east of Lexington) – Lane closure for inspection of bridges over Route 763 and Mill Creek. Westbound closures March 6, 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. Eastbound closures March 7, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 175 – Nighttime, alternating lane closures for inspection of Route 693 (High Bridge Church Road) overpass bridges. March 12 from 8 p.m.- 10:30 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 183.5 – Overnight, southbound lane closures for inspection of Route 679 (Hops Hill Road) overpass bridges. March 12, 1 a.m. – 4 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 184 to 185 northbound – Left shoulder closed for ditch cleaning and shoulder work. March 5 from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 187 – Overnight, alternating lane closures for inspection of Route 699 (Wesley Chapel Road) overpass bridges. March 12, 10:30 p.m.- 1 a.m.

(NEW) Exit 205, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures along on- and off-ramps for shoulder repairs. March 7-8, 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger-controlled traffic for ditching, tree removal, pothole repairs, patching, litter pickup, brush cutting, pipe maintenance. Sweeping intersections with a mobile work zone. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 611 (South Buffalo Road) closed 8 a.m. March 13 to 4 p.m. March 14 between Route 612 (Bluegrass Trail) and Route 661 (Snakefoot Lane) for a drainage pipe replacement. Follow posted detours.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger traffic control for ditching, tree removal, pothole repairs, patching, litter pickup, brush cutting, pipe maintenance. Grading and sweeping intersections at various locations with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 250 – Mobile work zone eastbound for tree trimming from Monterey to Bullpasture Mountain. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Street sweeping in the towns of Monterey, Bluegrass, and McDowell. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Various roads – Flagger-traffic control for pothole patching. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 91 to 92 (Fishersville area) – Overnight mobile lane closures for inspection of Route 285 (Tinkling Springs Road) overpass bridge. 11 p.m. March 11 through 4 a.m. March 12.

(UPDATE) Exit 99, eastbound – Right shoulder closures on ramps to and from Route 250 for bridge maintenance. Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., through March 22.

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 224 to 225 (Staunton) – Nighttime mobile lane closures for inspection of Route 254 (New Hope Road) overpass bridge. March 11, 8 – 11 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Three Notch Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures on ramps to and from eastbound I-64 for bridge maintenance. Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., through March 22.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through traffic between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes through spring 2018. Residents and school buses will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

(NEW) Route 725 (Chapel Road) – Single lane closure for tree removal between Route 720 (Jerusalem Chapel Road) and Route 42 (Buffalo Gap Highway). March 9, 8:30 a.m.- 2 p.m.

(NEW) Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. March 5 to September 28, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. March 5 to September 28, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 257 Park & Ride (Friedens Church Road) – Closed 8 p.m. March 6 through 6 p.m. March 7 for tree and brush removal and general maintenance. Park & Ride is located just west of the I-81 southbound ramp, exit 240 and Route 920.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated project completion December 2018.

Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Flagger traffic control for maintenance of bridge over Hawksbill Creek just south of Elkton. Through March 23, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion December 2018.

(UPDATE) Route 867 (North River Road) – Flagger-controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Pleasant Run. Watch for construction traffic entering/leaving work zone. Through March 16, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 340 Business – Overnight flagger traffic control for shoulder widening and guardrail replacement from Route 615 (Rockingham Drive) to Route 624 (Hawksbill Drive). Sunday-Friday, March 11-30, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 615 (Serenity Ridge Road) – Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 615 (Egypt Bend Road) to dead end, 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Through April 30, 2018.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County. Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction and a width restriction of 10 feet 6 inches. Northbound traffic follows median crossovers to use southbound bridge. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Shenandoah/Frederick county line. Through March 9 from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 675 (Stoney Creek Road) – Road closed for bridge replacement at Stoney Creek in Columbia Furnace area, about five miles north of Edinburg and 0.33-mile south of Route 42 (Senedo Road). Follow posted detours. Estimated completion spring 2018.

Route 720 (Wissler Road), near Mount Jackson – Closed to through traffic just west of Route 11 for repairs to Meems Bottom covered bridge.

(NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder work and pipe cleaning. Monday – Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger-controlled lane closures as needed. Daylight hours Monday – Friday.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 302 to 304, northbound – Series of four short duration “slow roll” traffic slowdowns Sunday, March 11, between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. for utility work.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Flagger traffic control for pavement marking from Reliance Road to Winchester city limit. Monday-Friday through March 25, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 48/55 (Wardensville Pike/John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control for bridge repairs over Cedar Creek at Frederick/Shenandoah county line. Through March 9, 7 a.m.- 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger-controlled lane closures as needed. Daylight hours Monday – Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger-controlled lane closures as needed. Daylight hours Monday – Friday.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
