Staunton District Traffic Alert: June 4-8

road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. June 3-7 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Mile marker 29 to 36, eastbound – Alternating lane closures for milling, paving and pavement marking. Weekdays through June 29 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger traffic control for mowing and pavement patching at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Morris Hill Road) – Road closed through June 7 for bridge work over Rucker Hollow Stream and Dry Branch tributary. Residents will have access to properties on either side of the bridges. Through traffic will follow posted detours.
Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Occasional flagging operations as needed near Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) and I-64 for intersection improvements. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 57 to 41, westbound – Right lane closures as needed for guardrail maintenance. June 4-9 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 174 to 206, northbound and southbound – Overnight, mobile lane closures for vegetation management. June 3-7 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(NEW) Exit 175, southbound – Shoulder closures along on- and off-ramps for shoulder repairs, June 6-8 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 189 to 190, northbound – Overnight right lane closure for excavation work from 8 p.m. June 5 to 7 a.m. June 6. Inclement weather will delay the work to June 6-7.

Route 608 (Ravens Run Road) – Stop and proceed traffic and flaggers as needed on weekdays for bridge work near intersection with Route 220 (Jackson River Road). Through June 27.

Route 640 (Meadowdale Road/Blue Grass Valley Road) – Mobile work zone for patching operations at various locations. Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Overnight left lane closures for mowing, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through June 2. Daytime right shoulder closures for mowing from 12 noon to 8 p.m. through June 2.

(NEW) Mile marker 94 to 88, westbound – Right shoulder closures for shoulder repairs, June 4-6 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane closures for mowing, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through June 10. Daytime right shoulder closures for mowing/trimming and litter pickup, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. through June 10.

(NEW) Mile marker 217 to 219, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installation, June 4-15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 227 to 237, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for pavement marker installation, June 5-7 from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 237 to 231, southbound – Overnight single lane closures with temporary ramp closures for milling, paving and pavement marking. Monday through Friday nights from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through October 2018.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Flagger controlled lane closures just east of I-81 for bridge work over Lewis Creek. June 4-8 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 42 (Little Calfpasture Highway) – Single lane closures for guardrail work between Route 703 (Hewitt Road) and Route 685 (Lehigh Road). June 4-18 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Road closed to through traffic through summer 2018 between Route 912 (Hodge Street) and Route 660 (Lake Road) for roadway and utility work. Route 912 and Route 660 will serve as detour routes. Residents will have access to Route 610 with flagger traffic control.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 744 (Leaport Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 744 (Leaport Road) – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures for pipe installations and tree removal from Route 616 (Morningside Drive) to Route 781 (Bald Rock Road) as part of a Rural Rustic repair project. Through September 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 840 (Old Churchville Road) – Road closed through June 5 between east and west intersections of Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) for box culvert installation. Follow posted detours.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 252 to 253, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for paving operations, May 30-June 2 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Flagger and pilot-truck traffic control for paving and pavement marking from Augusta County line to Mount Crawford town limits. June 7-15 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Route 33 (Town of Elkton) – Alternating lane closures for bridge work over Fifth Street and Norfolk Southern railway. June 4-July 13 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Short duration closure for utility-line crossing near intersection with Route 276 (Cross Keys Road), June 5 from 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Route 257 (Ottobine Road) – Signal-controlled single-lane traffic during bridge replacement. Vehicles limited to 13 feet in width. Estimated project completion December 2018.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Temporary signals control traffic across bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Page county line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

Route 636 (Cub Run Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 602 (Point Road) to dead end. Through June 6 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 672 (Pineville Road) – Flagger traffic control for pavement operations from Route 253 (Port Republic Road) to Route 655 (Lawyer Road). Weekdays June 1-7 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 715 (Kettle View Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 636 (Runkles Gap Road) to dead end. Through June 6 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 738 (Dry River Road, Bridgewater area) – Road closed to all traffic (including pedestrians and bicycles) south of Route 257 during bridge and intersection construction. Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion December 2018.

(UPDATE) Route 772 (Greenmount Road) – Flagger traffic control for pavement operations from Route 910 to Route 42. Weekdays through June 5 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 856 (Park Way) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 340 (East Side Highway) to dead end. Through June 5 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 867 (North River Road, Mount Crawford area) – Road closed for bridge replacement over Pleasant Run through fall 2018. Follow posted detours.

Route 884 (Homestead Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 340 (East Side Highway) to dead end. Through June 5 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 988 (Scholars Road) – Temporary causeway with 24/7 “Stop & Proceed” traffic pattern during Pleasant Run bridge replacement, through July 6. Work zone between Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) and Route 989 (Valley Branch Road).

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Overnight flagger traffic control for shoulder widening and guardrail replacement between Luray town limits and Warren County line. Sunday-Thursday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through June 30.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation. Flaggers or temporary signals control traffic on both sides of the bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River, at Rockingham County line near town of Shenandoah. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated completion of project November 2018.

Route 611 (Vaughn Summit Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 654 (Sunnyview Drive) to Route 605 (Beahm Lane). Through June 5 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 612 (Rocky Branch Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 658 (Shenk Hollow Road) to Rocky Branch Road. Through June 6 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 615 (Serenity Ridge Road) – Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations for Rural Rustic Road project from Route 615 (Egypt Bend Road) to dead end. Through August 31 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Route 654 (Mims Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 660 (Kibler Hill Road) to Route 611 (Vaughn Summit Road). Through June 6 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 658 (Rocky Branch Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 674 (Red Church Road) to national park boundary. Through June 5 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 660 (Springfield Road) – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 656 (Hulse Road) to dead end. Through June 6 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) – Alternating lane closures as needed for soil testing at multiple locations between Strasburg and Toms Brook, June 4-8 from 8 a.m. to 5 pm.

Route 11 – Single lane traffic for Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County. Northbound traffic use right lane of new Cedar Creek bridge. Southbound traffic uses right lane of the existing southbound bridge. Traffic pattern in place through mid-June. Speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Route 600 – Pilot truck/flagger controlled traffic for surface treatment and line painting from Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to Route 642 (Swartz Road). Through June 7 from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Route 11 – Traffic pattern change for Cedar Creek Bridge replacement between Route 629 (Oranda Road) in Shenandoah County and Route 840 (Water Plant Road) in Warren County: Northbound traffic will use the right lane of the new Cedar Creek bridge. Southbound traffic will use the right lane of the existing southbound bridge. Through mid-June. Work zone speed limit 35 miles an hour. Estimated project completion summer 2018.

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Overnight guardrail replacement from Page/Warren county line to Route 619 (Rivermont Drive), 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through June 30.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
