Short Film Contest winners featured on cable channel

The winners of the Waynesboro Cultural Commission’s 2012 Short Film Competition and Festival are available nightly throughout August on the Waynesboro government access channel (Comcast Channel 7, Lumos Channel 20).

The broadcast will be at 7:25 p.m. following the broadcast of the Waynesboro City Council meetings.

The annual Waynesboro Short Film Competition and Festival is held the first weekend in May. The event is sponsored and organized by the Waynesboro Cultural Commission under the leadership of Lorie Strother. Entries were limited to Virginia filmmakers and had to be no longer than 16 minutes.

Thirteen of the entries were selected for the public showing at WTA’s Gateway. Erica Arvold of Erica Arvold Casting selected the winners for the best youth (Age 20 or under) and best adult (21+) short films.  An “audience choice” award was also given.

The adult winner was “The Bard” directed by Adam Carboni of Richmond. Paul Hairston from Harrisonburg was the winner of the youth award for his film “Dreamt.” The audience choice winner was “Let It Begin Here” directed by Kevin R. Hershberger of Henrico.

The Cultural Commission will join with the Wayne Theatre Alliance for the 2013 Short Film Competition and Festival.
