Parents looking for a way to promote activities that involve movement and singing are encouraged to register for musikgarten classes at Eastern Mennonite University.
Musikgarten classes are designed for infants up to age 7.
“Our goal is to nurture a child’s music aptitude by engaging them and their families in activities that promote singing and movement,” said Christy Stoner, musikgarten instructor. “These activities help attune the ear, refine the voice and develop a rhythmic body through music which music can be expressed.”
Toddlers and preschoolers will use rhythm sticks, scarves, bells and shakers to learn to keep a steady beat while older children learn to sing, play music games and how to play simple songs, said Stoner.
The 10-week program begins Sept. 26, 2011.
