Note to underwear thieves: Avoid Waynesboro

Rutledge, John TravisThe Waynesboro Police Department charged a Staunton man for felony theft after he stole two packages of underwear from Walmart Sunday afternoon.

Officers charged John Travis Rutledge, 43 years old, with one count of petit larceny/third or subsequent offense, a felony.  On March 29 at approximately 1:05 PM, officers responded to the store located a 116 Lucy Lane for a report of a shoplifter who had been observed by store employees shoving the packages of underwear (men’s briefs) in his pants pocket.  He then left the store.  The officer found Rutledge sitting in a vehicle on the parking lot and detained him.  Officers recovered the merchandise, valued at $24, and arrested Rutledge.

He is being held at Middle River Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.
