Update on arrest at AFP Publishing office

Chris Graham

Authorities have not been able to get much in terms of information from the woman arrested late Sunday night outside the office of Augusta Free Press Publishing.

Nora Ellen Gibson, 44, was charged with tampering with a vehicle and obstruction of justice in connection with the incident, which was reported to police around 10:45 p.m. Sunday.

Gibson has refused to speak with police and magistrates and has not submitted herself to being fingerprinted, according to Waynesboro Police Sgt. Kelly Walker. Police aren’t sure of a fixed address for Gibson

She is being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail.

Here’s where we need to go from police report-style reporting to telling you what the writer saw. The vehicle that Gibson tampered with is my 2008 Hyundai. Taking my dog for a walk late Sunday, I witnessed Gibson enter my vehicle parked in the AFP Publishing parking lot located off Church Street. She looked behind the visors and in the glove compartment and appeared to want to try to start the car even without keys.

I attempted to confront Gibson to advise her to get out of the car, but she was not responsive. It was at this point that my wife, Crystal, called 911. The officer at the scene needed several minutes to get Gibson out of the car. Gibson then refused to get into the back of the squad car upon being handcuffed and kicked the officer while being forced in.

A pocketbook containing identification and travel brochures had been left in a chair on the front porch of the AFP Publishing office.

There was no damage to the vehicle or to the property, and nothing appeared to have been missing from either the car or the property.
