Letter: Voter shares personal experience in endorsement of Derek Almarode for Augusta County sheriff

derekalmarodeSeveral years ago, I was arrested for a crime I didn’t commit, knew nothing about, and had no idea I was even a suspect. Being a senior in college at the time, I obviously thought my life had ended. I knew I had done nothing wrong, but certainly didn’t know what I was going to do about it.

However, at the most confusing and frustrating point of my life, Derek Almarode stepped in and stood up for me. He knew my character and made sure I didn’t have to spend any time in jail whatsoever. Derek spent much of his free time over the following weeks working with my lawyer to make sure that the warrant for my arrest was expunged, and that my record would remain clean.

I’m voting for Derek Almarode for sheriff not only for his strong family values, or even his outstanding service to the people if this county as a member of the sheriff’s office. What he did for me and my family truly displayed the character and professionalism that I look for in an elected official.

In short, our justice system failed me. Derek didn’t.
