Letter: Augusta County voter backs Donald Smith for sheriff

Print Color Uniform with Hat- Donald Smith-3438Have you seen Donald Smith?  Have you met him?  Donald Smith is a mountain of a man!  He is a physically large, fit, and imposing figure.   But what makes Donald a mountain of a man is far more than his physical size.   It is the make-up of this individual.

Donald is a gentleman.  He treats everyone he meets with dignity and respect.  He has never failed to address me with other than, “sir”.  Donald Smith is committed to excellence.  He is never satisfied with any level of performance except his very best.  Donald Smith is goal oriented.  As the chief administrator of the sheriff’s department Donald would lead by example.  He has lived his life by setting measurable goals and objectives.  Setting goals is how he earned a college degree which was an over achievement of the requirements for the job he held as a deputy.  I can foresee Donald managing the business of the office as well as the personnel under his supervision by setting appropriate goals and objectives for performance.  Donald Smith is sensitive to the needs and feelings of everyone he meets.  (See previously published letter of Rhonda Yoder).

Donald Smith is a gentle giant.  One only needs to watch his interactions with young children and the elderly to see this.  Donald Smith is attentive to detail.  On hearing my wife mention she needed a certain garden product to make an old family meat relish recipe the product needed appeared at our door from his garden without our asking.  Donald Smith stands on principle.  From a young age (I taught him in middle school) I have watched him time after time stand for the right when the wrong was popular and easy.  The true test of character is making right choices when no one is watching.  He does things a certain way not because it is his way but because it is the right way.   I’ve seen Donald Smith do this more times than I’d care to try to count.

I could go on at some length with other character traits which make Donald Smith a mountain of a man but I think I have given enough specific examples that would earn him your vote to serve as sheriff of Augusta County.  He’s earned two votes from my household.
