james madison university jmuFuture science teachers at JMU will test what they have learned by leading science activities for Spotswood Elementary children at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21.

The five JMU students who are majoring in biology and physics have been designing hands-on experiments and other activities appropriate for children in grades K-5. The lessons, which will be taught at various stations, must align with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL); incorporate vocabulary and other literacy tools; be culturally relevant for English language learners; and use best practices.

The event will consist of eight stations, seven of which the Spotswood children can take the things they make home with them. The other station will have live salamanders, frogs and turtles to touch.

A photo booth will be available so children and parents can dress in lab coats or field biology clothing and get instant pictures to put in a magnet frame.
