The Virginia Department of Transportation has rescheduled the overnight closure of the Interstate 64 exit 91 eastbound off-ramp to Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) in Augusta County. The eastbound right lane of the interstate will also be closed from mile marker 90 to 92. These closures for milling and paving have been postponed by one week. The work is now scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. Friday, October 9, until 10 a.m. Saturday, October 10.
Eastbound I-64 drivers who need to access Route 285 will detour north on I-81 to exit 222, then follow Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) east back to Route 285.
All work is weather permitting.
The lane and ramp closures are part of the reconstruction of exit 91 at Route 285 near Fishersville. When contractors finish the Route 285 project, the road will have four lanes for just over one mile, between Route 636/640 and Route 935 (Expo Road). A new bridge over I-64 will accommodate the additional through lanes and dual left-turn lanes at both on-ramps. Additional turn lanes at the Route 636/640 intersection will handle traffic from the nearby hospital complex. Route 285 will have a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded Shirley Contracting of Lorton, Va., a $21 million design-build contract in September 2012. The company is performing the work in three phases, starting with construction of the new bridge over I-64 and widening the roadway to the west side of Route 285.
