Overnight closures at the I-64 interchange at exit 91 (Route 285/Tinkling Spring Road) in Augusta County near Fishersville have been rescheduled for Oct. 18-20. These closures will allow contractors to perform milling and paving of the eastbound on-ramp and the westbound off-ramp.
From 7 p.m. Sunday, October 18, until 7 a.m. Monday, October 19, the I-64 eastbound right lane will be closed from about mile marker 90 to 92. The I-64 eastbound on-ramp from Route 285 will also be closed. Drivers can access I-64 eastbound by continuing south on Route 285, turning east on Route 631 (Ladd Road) and north on Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) back to the interstate.
From 7 p.m. Monday, October 19, until 7 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, the I-64 westbound right lane will be closed from about mile marker 92 to 90. The I-64 westbound off-ramp to Route 285 will also be closed. Drivers can access Route 285 by continuing west to I-81 northbound, taking exit 222 and following Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) east back to Route 285.
All work is weather permitting.
These lane and ramp closures are part of the reconstruction of exit 91 at Route 285 near Fishersville. When contractors finish the project, the road will have four lanes between Route 636/640 and Route 935. A new bridge over I-64 will accommodate the additional through lanes and dual left-turn lanes at both on-ramps. Additional turn lanes at the Route 636/640 intersection will handle traffic from the nearby hospital complex. Route 285 will have a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded Shirley Contracting of Lorton, Va., a $21 million design-build contract in September 2012. The company is performing the work in three phases, starting with construction of the new bridge over I-64 and widening the roadway to the west side of Route 285.
