Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance announced the selection of Jeremiah Jenkins as its new event coordinator. In this position, Jeremiah will be responsible for producing outstanding events that enhance the quality of life in Harrisonburg. He will also serve as the city’s liaison for special event applications.
“HDR is thrilled to bring someone of Jeremiah’s caliber onto our team,” says Andrea Dono, HDR’s executive director. “What excites us the most is Jeremiah’s creative approach and his vision for what our signature events can become for the community. With his help, our events will become the ones people plan their entire calendars around.”
Jeremiah’s extensive resume and commitment to downtown is impressive. He has contributed to the success of many downtown projects, including a few start-ups of his own. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Sociology from James Madison University, he founded his first production company, bringing national touring bands to downtown Harrisonburg. He received his Master’s in Theological Studies from Harvard University before returning to Harrisonburg to design, develop and manage Clementine for local restaurateur Clay Clark. In 2010, Jeremiah opened Wonder, a retail store in downtown – all while remaining involved in Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance. In 2013, he was honored with HDR’s Volunteer of the Year award for his service on the HDR advisory, organization, and Valley Fourth committees.
Jeremiah’s passion for events and music is undeniable. He has been the booking manager for the Mockingbird Roots Music Hall in Staunton, VA and the Rocktown Beer & Music Festival since its inception. Most recently, he created Black Bear Productions with his business partner to produce the annual Red Wing Roots Music Festival with The Steel Wheels at Natural Chimneys Park in Mt Solon, VA. Since then, he also frequently provides booking, production management and consultation for other venues, events and festivals throughout Virginia.
“This is such an exciting time for HDR and for downtown Harrisonburg. We’ve accomplished so much in the past 12 years, collectively building a thriving downtown and vibrant community,” says Jeremiah Jenkins. “Since returning after grad school, it’s been an honor to work in various capacities with so many committed entrepreneurs, developers, artists, and advocates for downtown. And now, I’m delighted to join the staff of HDR as we look forward to another decade of opportunity and growth. The future looks bright in the friendly city.”
Jeremiah loves his neighborhood, walking and biking downtown, and floating down the river with his two dogs, Paco and Fela. He will assume the position of HDR’s event coordinator on August 2nd.
