The search for a new economic-development director in Waynesboro that had dragged on for 19 months is over. City Manager Mike Hamp announced in a press release Thursday morning that Greg Hitchin, currently the business development manager in Onondaga County in New York, has taken the job effective April 12.

Hitchin has served in his current position in Onondaga County for 11 years.

“I am excited and pleased that Mr. Hitchin has accepted the offer to join our organization,” Hamp said in a statement this morning.

“I am confident that his professional experience, knowledge and skill will have an appreciable impact on Waynesboro’s economic-development program, enhancing our reputation and elevating our ability to retain existing business and attract new entrepreneurs to the city.”
