Charlottesville Area Transit to delay farebox launch

AFP

charlottesville area transit2Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) has delayed the install date for its new fare collection system.  A new launch date has not been set.

The delay comes at the request of CAT’s vendor, Trapeze Group, who discovered an internal hardware issue.  The mechanism in question causes an intermittent malfunction which requires the bus operator to take the farebox offline and reboot it, which would delay the bus in route causing late departures.

The decision to delay the launch date will allow the Trapeze Group the necessary time to correct the problem.

CAT will maintain its current fare structure until the new fare system is installed.  Passengers will continue to have the option to purchase single rides, Day Passes, and Monthly Passes.

June’s Monthly Pass will go on sale May 25.
