BCSC Members Completed CDSMP

AFP

CDSMP-BCSC-13(1)Seventeen members of the Bath Community Senior Center (BCSC) completed the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program workshop (CDSMP) on June 24, and a few others participated in select sessions although they did not complete the full series.

Facilitators of this group were Perlista Henry, BCSC member and VPAS Board member, and Anita Doolittle, RN from Bath Community Hospital. Joyce Nussbaum and April Holmes, CDSMP Program Coordinator with DARS, visited this closing session for fidelity monitoring and the first meeting of the Bath Highland CDSMP Steering Committee that followed. A recent workshop completer shared a wonderful analogy. “It’s like having a squeaky door,” she said. “You may be willing to live with squeaks, but this class can be like oiling the door and then you don’t have to live squeaky any more.”

Both Bath and Highland Counties have new workshops scheduled to begin July 11, and four additional individuals from Bath County are planning to take the August CDSMP Leaders’ Training in Harrisonburg. Some Bath and Highland leaders also plan to follow that with Diabetes Self-Management Leader Training and we’re excited about good things in the future from this program.
