augusta countyA Waynesboro woman has been charged in connection with an accident that killed a motorcyclist Friday morning in Augusta County.

Stephanie C. Groves, 59, of Waynesboro, was charged with failure to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic in the 6:15 a.m. accident at the intersection of Route 254 and Old White Bridge Road.

The motorcyclist, Steven T. Fisher, 53, of Waynesboro, Va., was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

Groves, driving a 2015 Ford Edge, was on Old White Bridge Road and pulled up to the stop sign at the intersection with Route 254, according to Virginia State Police. The Ford then crossed over Route 254 and into the path of a 2016 Harley-Davidson Street Glider being driven by Fisher traveling west on Route 254.

The motorcycle was unable to avoid the Ford and struck it in the driver’s side.

The crash remains under investigation.

Route 254 was re-opened by 8:50 a.m. Friday.
