Jets blitz Redskins in second half, win 34-20

redskins-helmet1The New York Jets overcame three first-half turnovers with a strong second half in a 34-20 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

The Jets (4-1) gashed the ‘Skins for 221 yards on the ground, with Chris Ivory gaining 146 yards on 20 carries. Ryan Fitzpatrick was 19-for-26 passing for 253 yards and two touchdowns, with one pass intercepted.

Washington (2-4) turned the three first-half New York turnovers into 13 points and led 13-10 at the break. The Jets tied the game at 13 with 11:00 to go in the third quarter on a 39-yard Nick Folk field goal, then took control on an 18-yard TD run by Fitzpatrick and a pair of touchdown passes from Fitzpatrick, to Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, over a 10:42 span stretching into the opening minute of the fourth quarter.

The Redskins’ only points of the second half came on a blocked punt recovered by Rashad Ross with 3:59 left in the game.

Kirk Couins was 25-of-43 passing for 196 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for Washington, which got only 34 yards on the ground.
