Habitat for Humanity Gala celebrates five years

staunton2editsMembers of SAW Habitat for Humanity’s Board of Directors and Advisors have planned an extraordinary evening at the historic Stonewall Jackson Hotel that will join community leaders; benefactors, sponsors and philanthropists in an evening to raise awareness of the need for workforce homeownership and investment in our community.  The Gala will be held at the historic Stonewall Jackson Hotel in Staunton on January 23, 2016.  Invitations for the black-tie event have been mailed.

This marks the fifth year for the organization’s Hope for Homes Gala.  The 2015 Gala was featured in Virginian Living June magazine’s “UpFront” section that features leading events across the commonwealth.  The evening begins with a “celebrity” cocktail reception with live jazz music, open bar and h’orderves, portraits by Linda Wilson photography and candid’s by Norm Carter photography.  A silent auction featuring get-a-ways, evenings out, one-of-a-kind jewelry and original art will help raise funds for building.  A four-course seated and plated dinner will be served, followed by a short program and spirited live auction segment that features contractor services, handmade quilts, a glider adventure, and the keys to a tranquil escape for the entire family (for a week) to a custom built 7 bedroom, three-level mansion with elevator, in Top Sail, North Carolina.  The evening continues with after-dinner dancing by the orchestra “Salute to Swing” band led by Leo Mallek of Earlysville.  The 17 piece orchestra performs big band era music of the 40’s and 50’s along with contemporary music – promising a mix of both old and new sounds for those who love music and love to dance.

This year’s Gala Family Chairs are (The Honorable) Andrea and Kenneth Oakes of Staunton and Linda and Burk Hershey of Waynesboro.  They are joined in their endeavors by honorary Gala chairs Seth Liskey of Edward Jones in Staunton; Union Bank & Trust; and The Carter Ellis family.  Gala advisors and leaders are Tom Montgomery; Brigadier General William and Anne Alexander, Tracy and Judy Aitchison; Dr. Sandra Curry, Allen Dahl; Pack and Rebecca Fancher; Charlie and Jackie Frankfort; Fred and Barbara Grunder; Jennie Hill; Minnie Stevenson; Frank and Nancy Summers; Paul and Martha Vames, Kimberly Watters and Lynn White.

Sponsorships and patrons are vital elements that help this event raise awareness and funds to prevent homelessness and sub-standard housing in our own community.  For a complete list of all of the sponsors and patrons as well as photos from last year’s event visit: www.habitatsaw.org.  For information on how you can sponsor a table at the event please contact Rhonda at 540 886 1944 ex. 102.
