Congressman McEachin announces $30+ million in housing grants

Donald McEachinCongressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) announced numerous grants for localities throughout the Fourth Congressional District awarded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

“I have fought throughout my time in Congress to protect constituents’ access to safe, sanitary, affordable housing. I am very excited to see these housing resources for use throughout the district,” said Congressman Donald McEachin. “Everyone deserves decent, safe shelter and these monies will help localities provide additional housing for residents who struggle.”

Chesapeake received $1,182,627 in a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to help build viable urban communities by creating housing and job opportunities for low-income individuals. Chesapeake also received a $550,827 HOME grant for expanding affordable housing in the community.

In addition, the Fourth District received $18,289,253 in Community Development Block Grants, and $2,771,457 in an Emergency Solution grant that works to reduce homelessness by supporting shelters and assisting homeless individuals. The district was also awarded $10,094,628 in a HOME grant to augment affordable housing and a $962,389 HOPWA grant that supports housing assistance for low-income individuals with HIV/AIDS.
