smheart_02Augusta Health will celebrate Heart Month with its annual Heart Health Fair, featuring several free screenings.  This year, the event will take place on Wednesday, February 27 from 3 pm to 6 pm in the new Heart and Vascular Center on the Augusta Health campus.  Tours of the new center, including the cardiac catheterization labs, will also be available.

Free screenings offered include carotid artery ultrasound, pulmonary function test, body mass index, blood glucose, stroke assessment and blood pressures.  Cholesterol blood draws will be available for a nominal $10 fee.

The physicians from Augusta Health Cardiology and Augusta Health Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine will be on hand to meet with the public and answer questions.

Augusta Health was recently named one of Becker Hospital Review’s “100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs”.  Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States, and the 100 hospitals on the list were selected based on clinical accolades, recognition for quality care and contributions to the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery.  All on the list have been set apart for excellence in heart care by prominent and reputable healthcare sources such as US News & World Report, Thomson Reuters, HealthGrades and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  In addition to Augusta Health, national hospitals on the list include the Cleveland Clinic and the Mayo Clinic.  Other Virginia hospitals included are Inova Fairfax Hospital, Sentara Norfolk and St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond.

Augusta Health is an independent, nonprofit community hospital whose mission is to promote the health and well-being of our community through access to excellent care.  Named one of the 100 Top Hospitals in America by Thomson Reuters in both 2011 and 2012, Augusta Health has also been nationally recognized by HealthGrades for clinical excellence and patient safety.
