2016 Mass Meeting of the Augusta County Republican Committee

As Chairman of the Augusta County Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Georgia Alvis-Long, do hereby issue this Call for a Mass Meeting to be held at the Augusta County Government Center, 18 Government Center Lane, Verona, VA 24482 or an alternate location starting at 10:00 a.m. local time on Saturday, March 19, 2016 for the following purposes:

1. Electing a Unit Chairman and members to the Unit Committee for the 2016- 2018 term.

2. Electing up to 750 Delegates and an equal number of Alternates to the Republican Party of Virginia Quadrennial Convention, commencing at 2:30 p.m. local time on April 29, 2016 and voting to begin at 12:00 p.m. on April 30, 2016 at the Convocation Center of James Madison University located at 895 University Boulevard, Harrisonburg, VA or an alternative location, for the following purposes:
a) Electing 13 At-Large Delegates and 13 At-Large Alternate Delegates to the Republican National Convention to be held on July 18-21, 2016 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio or an alternative location;
b) Nominating 2 Electors At-Large to be voted for in the presidential election on November 8, 2016;
c) Electing the Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia for the 2016-2020 term; and
d) Electing a Republican National Committeeman and a Republican National Committeewoman.
Each unit’s maximum number of Delegates is a number five (5) times its respective Delegate Vote or 150 for the Augusta County Republican Committee.

3. Electing up to 750 Delegates and an equal number of Alternates to the 6th District Convention to be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Cave Spring High School, 3712 Chaparral Drive, Roanoke, Virginia 24018, starting at 10:00 a.m. for the following purposes:
a) Electing 3 National Delegates and 3 National Alternate Delegates from the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia to the Republican National Convention to be held on July 18-21, 2016 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio or its alternative location;
b) Nominating 1 Elector from the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia to be voted for in the presidential election on November 8, 2016;
c) Electing a Chairman for the Sixth Congressional District of the Republican Party of Virginia for the 2016-2018 term;
d) Electing 3 Regional Vice Chairmen for the Sixth Congressional District of the Republican Party of Virginia for the 2016-2018 term;
e) Electing 3 members to the State Central Committee from the Sixth Congressional District for the 2016-2020 term.
Each unit’s maximum number of Delegates is a number five (5) times its respective Delegate Vote or 150 for the Augusta County Republican Committee.

4. And for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the Mass Meeting.

 

Qualifications for Participation

All legal and qualified voters of Augusta County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, and who, if requested, express in open meeting, either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions, or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.

State Party Plan, Article 1, Section A., point 4, “In addition to the foregoing, to be in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, unless otherwise stipulated by the appropriate Official Committee, a person otherwise qualified hereunder shall not have participated in Virginia in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party within the last five years.”

State Party Plan, Article 1, Section A., point 5, “A single exception to Paragraph 4 shall be approved for a voter that renounces affiliation with any other party in writing, and who expresses in writing that he/she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends, at the time of the writing, to support the nominees of the Republican Party in the future. Any voter that utilizes the foregoing exception, and thereafter participates in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party, shall not have the benefit of the exception identified in this paragraph thereafter.”

 

Pre-filing/Filing Requirements

Candidates for election to the office of Chair of the Augusta County Republican Committee shall submit the attached Declaration and Statement of Qualifications pre-file form by mail to the Augusta County Republican Committee, P.O. Box 430, Verona, VA 24482, and must be received by Noon, February 27. Postmarks do not govern. A $100 non-refundable filing fee, check payable to the Augusta County Republican Committee, must accompany the pre-file form. If only one candidate properly files, then said candidate shall be declared chairman. There will be no nominations from the floor for the office of Unit Chair.

Candidates seeking membership to the Augusta County Republican Committee, or who wish to be elected as Delegates to the 6th District Convention, and/or the State Convention may submit the attached pre-file form to the Augusta County Republican Committee, P.O. Box 430, Verona, VA 24482 in order to expedite the registration process to participate in the Mass Meeting. Postmarks do not govern and must be received by 5 p.m. March 18, 2016. Filing as a Candidate will be accepted until 10 a.m. March 19. All persons in line at 10 a.m. will be allowed to register for the Mass Meeting.

 

Mass Meeting Registration/Fees

Registration for the Mass Meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 10:00 a.m. All persons in line at 10 a.m. will be allowed to register for the Mass Meeting.
• Augusta County Republican Committee Mass Meeting = NO FEE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE
• Augusta County Republican Committee member 2016 – 2018 = $24.00 annual dues (Payable by April 2016)
• Delegate/Alternate to 6th District Convention = $20.00 voluntary registration fee
• Delegate/Alternate to RPV State Convention = $35.00 voluntary registration fee

The Chair of the Augusta County Republican Committee requests that all Delegates and Alternates pay the voluntary registration fees to the District and State Conventions in order to assist the operations and administration of these events.

Failure to pay the requested voluntary fees will not result in disqualification to participate in any elements of the Conventions. Publication of Call This Call, along with pre-file and candidate forms, will be published at www.augustagop.com, www.sixthdistrictgop.org/node/197, and www.virginia.gop/events/category/official-call.

Electronic copies will be sent to all current members with valid email addresses. It will also be available upon written request to Vice-Chair of Communication, Shannon Tate, 128 Kingsbury Dr., Waynesboro, VA 22980.

In approving this Call and in accordance with Article VIII, Section A2 of the Republican Party of Virginia Plan of Organization the Augusta County Republican Committee waived the required publication in a newspaper of general circulation in the Election District.
