A Brendan Ryan RBI double broke a tie game in the sixth, and the Yankees bullpen made the lead stand up in a 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night in Yankee Stadium.
Ryan’s base knock off Wei-Yin Chin (4-6, 2.86 ERA) answered a pair of RBI singles in the top of the sixth from J.J. Hardy and Matt Wieters that had tied the game at 2-2.
An Alex Rodriguez sacrifice-fly RBI gave New York a 1-0 lead in the first, and a Chase Headley RBI double in the second made it 2-0 Yankees.
After the Ryan tie-breaking hit in the sixth, the O’s put runners on base in the seventh and eighth with no success, and Andrew Miller closed out his 21st save with a perfect ninth.
The Orioles (46-46) fall to five games behind the Yankees (51-41) in the American League East.
