VMI releases 2015 women’s soccer schedule

vmi_logo2VMI women’s soccer has announced its 2015 schedule. The Keydets’ slate begins with an exhibition against Liberty in Lynchburg on August 14, and the Keydets then open the regular season August 21, when the Keydets play host to Youngstown State. The Keydets dropped a 2-0 decision to the Penguins on the road last season and will conclude the home and home this year.

The team then hits the road to Annapolis, Md. to take on Navy on August 28, as the Keydets will be seeking their first win against the Mids in program history. The road trip then continues Sept. 4 against a familiar foe, the Radford Highlanders, before the Keydets return home to take on another former Big South opponent, Longwood on Sept. 8.

Two tournaments then follow on back to back weekends, the first being in Boiling Springs, N.C. Sept. 11 and 13. The Keydets face UNC Asheville on Sept. 11 and the host Runnin’ Bulldogs on Sunday, Sept. 13. VMI then hosts a four-team round robin event the followingweekend, when the Keydets face Presbyterian (Sept. 18) and Francis Marion (Sept. 20). NJIT will also be involved in that weekend’s proceedings.

The Keydets then open SoCon play by facing ETSU on Sept. 25 at home and playing host to Western Carolina on Sept. 27. A four-game road trip follows that includes trips to Wofford (Oct. 2), Furman (Oct. 4), Samford (Oct. 9) and Chattanooga (Oct. 11), before VMI returns home to face The Citadel on Oct. 16 and Mercer on Oct. 18.

VMI’s final non-conference match, and final home match of the season, will be Oct. 22 against Delaware State. The Keydets then close out the regular season Oct. 25 at UNCG.

The 2015 Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Championship begins Oct. 28 on campus sites and continues until the final on Nov. 8 in Greenville, S.C.
