VDOT road work schedule for March 11-15

vdot logoThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies.

Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

 


ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and clean ditches, shoulders and median. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) — Fiber optic cable installations both underground and above ground. Work will include shoulder closures and occasional lane closures. Work zone between the West Virginia Line at Sweet Springs and Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) and then continuing on Route 311 north to Route 601 (Tuckahoe Road), then continuing on Route 601 to the West Virginia Line. Estimated work completed June, 2013.

* Various roads – Shoulder repairs and ditching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 617 – Road closed for widening and safety improvements. Estimated completion is May 2013.

* Route 633 – Replacement of Cowpasture River bridge and approaches from 1.46 miles south of Route 634 to 1.14 miles south of Route 634. Be alert for flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 17, 2013.
* Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Bridge over Jackson River closed until further notice for repairs. This location is 0.1-mile west from Route 687 (Jackson River Road) to 0.6-mile east from Route 666 (Morris Hill Road). Motorists can use the following routes for a detour:  Route 687 to Route 641 (Indian Draft Road) to Route 666. Expected completion is mid-March, weather permitting.

* Route 647 – Pavement work from intersection with Hattie Street to intersection with Horse Mountain View and Mall Road.  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 792 – Pavement work from intersection with Horse Mountain View to intersection with Mallow Road.  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Various roads – Shoulder repairs, grading and ditching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Various roads – Pothole repairs, brush cutting and shoulder repairs. Flagger traffic control as needed, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 666 – Pavement work to intersection with Main Street. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Various roads – Brush cutting, pothole repairs, shoulder repairs, and pipe cleaning. Flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and ditch, shoulder and median cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 45, eastbound and westbound – I-64 bridge repair over Route 629. Intermittent flagger controlled lane closures as need on Route 629 from 2.36 miles to Route 780 and 5.01 miles to Route 60.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Estimated completion April 2013.

* (NEW) Mile marker 56 to 57, eastbound and westbound, single lane closures for bridge inspection of I-64 over Route 763 and Mill Creek. March 12, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173 to 205.5, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and ditch, shoulder and median cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 195 to 200.5 – Right lane closure for installation of mile marker signs. Truck Climbing Lane project. March 11 through March 13, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation. Work area between Route 716 (Mt. Atlas Road) and Route 706 (Steeles Fort Road). Estimated completion end of April.

* Route 11 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to intersection with Route 684
(Tinkerville Road). Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 60 (East Midland Trail) – Fiber optic cable installation. Work area between I-81 and City of Buena Vista. Estimated completion end of April.

* Route 60 (West Midland Trail) – Fiber optic cable installation. Work area between Route 850 and City of Lexington. Estimated completion end of April.

* Route 60 (East Nelson Street, City of Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is Dec. 2013.

* Various roads – Trash pick-up. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 629 – Intermittent flagger controlled lane closures as need from 2.36 miles to Route 780 and 5.01 miles to Route 60 for I-64 bridge repair at mile marker 45. Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Estimated completion April 2013.

* Route 763 (Lincoln Road) at Route 11. Utility project. Install water transmission line on northwest shoulder of Route 763 for 0.60 mile to the intersection of Route 11. Installation will continue on the east shoulder of Route 11 northbound for 1.23 miles. Crossovers may be closed as work progresses. Estimated completion is March 2013.

* Various roads – Sweeping bridges and intersections, pothole repairs, grading, ditching, pipe replacement, and brush cutting. Flagger traffic control as needed, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 220 – Shoulder repairs at various locations with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Route 250 – Brush cutting from McDowell to Route 614 with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Various roads – Street sweeping, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.to 4 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 678 – Shoulder closure February 18 to April 26 for shoulder improvement project, 1.37 miles south from Route 615 and 1.93 north miles to Route 612. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with flagger traffic control.

* Various roads – Street sweeping, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.to 4 p.m.

* Various roads – Pothole repairs with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64
* (NEW) Mile marker 95 to 96, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for bridge inspection of I-64 over Norfolk Southern Railroad. March 14, 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.

 

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Exit 217 to Mile marker 214.5, southbound –Right lane closure for pavement testing on March 11, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and left lane closure for pavement testing on March 18, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

* Mile marker 195 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch, shoulder and median cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville), northbound and southbound – Sewer construction. Shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Estimated completion is November 30, 2013.

*(UPDATE) Route 250, northbound and southbound – Single lane closures for I-64 bridge inspection at mile marker 73 to 74 over Route 250. March 13, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Route 340 – Waynesboro, Delphine Avenue Project. Installation of sanitary line and waterline at various locations on Delphine Ave., with retaining wall placement along Delphine Ave. to 4th Street. Be alert for lane closures and flagger traffic control. Work is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 664 (Mount Torrey Road) – Lane and shoulder closures for bridge widening project, March 4 to March 21. Work area .05 miles east to Route 610 and 3.45 miles west to Route 814 (near the town of Sherando). Flagger traffic control during daylight hours.

* Route 1050 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 1316 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) cul-de-sac. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 243 to 246 northbound – Cut trees and repair fences. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 251 to 264, northbound – Repair on-ramp signs. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 257 to 264, northbound and southbound – Clean debris left side and median.  Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road) – Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for bridge replacement work for duration of the project. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

Route 257 – Left and right lane closures for guardrail removal and replacement. March 4 to 8, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Work zone between 1.05 miles north of Route 604 to 0 miles west of Dayton West Circle.
Secondary Roads

* Route 609 (Naked Creek Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 (Fleeburg Road, Page County) and Route 609. Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades beginning February 11. Intermittent lane closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.

* (NEW) Route 918 will be temporarily closed to traffic from the Route 11 intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* Route 1421 (Springbrook Road, Town of Broadway) – Road closed over Linville Creek for bridge construction Jan. 21 to March 18, and signal upgrade at Route 42. The closure will be between South Main Street (Route 42) and Early Drive (Route 1415). Watch for detour signage. Estimated completion is April 30, 2013.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.40 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Motorists should use extreme caution and obey posted speed limit. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 603 (Fleeburg Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 and Route 609 (Naked Creek Road, Rockingham County). Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 0 to 1, northbound and southbound, single lane closures for bridge inspection at entrance and exit ramps over Stony Creek. March 11, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Mile marker 251, northbound – Fence repair on ramps. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 273 to 288, northbound and southbound – Clean debris left side and median. Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 274.5, southbound –Shoulders repairs. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 282.8 to 290.5, southbound – Fence repair. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 283 to 286.6, northbound and southbound—Graffiti remediation. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 – Sewer line replacement from Capon Street (Town of Strasburg) to Route 55. Traffic controlled by flaggers. Sunday through Thursday nights, 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Estimated completion May 17, 2013.

Route 11 at Route 1974 (Holiday Street, Town of Strasburg) – Traffic signal replacement. Estimated completion is April 2013.

Secondary Roads

* Route 629 – Pavement work from intersection of Route 11(Old Valley Pike) to intersection at Main Street. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 720 (Wissler Road) — Road closure at the Meems Bottom Covered Bridge, 0.3 miles west of Route 11 (Mt. Jackson area), for bridge maintenance and repairs. Monday, March 11 to Friday, March 15, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Closure will be removed in the evenings and weekends. Daylight detour for eastbound traffic—Route 950 south to Route 730 east to Route 11 to Route 720. Daylight detour for westbound traffic—Route 11 to Route 730 west to Route 950 north to Route 720.

* (NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting, pothole patching, pipe cleaning and ditching. Monday to Friday.

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 302 to 310, northbound and southbound – Clean debris left side and median, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 302.3, northbound — Right shoulder closures for new sign installation. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Estimated completion April 30, 2013.

* (NEW) Mile marker 305.4 to 305.5, northbound and southbound – Alternating right shoulder closure for bridge inspection at Route 735 (Salem Church Road) over I-81. March 13, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 315 to 315.1, northbound and southbound – Alternating right shoulder closure at Route 744 (Woodstock Lane) over I-81. March 13, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

* Mile marker 315 to 324, southbound –Sign and mile marker repairs. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 317, northbound – Extend deceleration lane. Night time lane closures, Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and daytime shoulder closures. Estimated completion is November 2013.

* (NEW) Mile marker 321.3 to 321.4, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for bridge inspection at Route 672 (Hopewell Road) over I-81. March 11, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 11, southbound – Left and right alternating lane closures for bridge inspection at Route 37 (J.K. Robinson) over Route 11. March 11, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
