tim kaineSen. Tim Kaine will join students, community organizations, and faith leaders for the Richmond March for Our Lives rally on Saturday.

Kaine will give remarks at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School about the urgent need to reduce gun violence and make our schools and communities safer. In the aftermath of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, students in Virginia and across the country have become a driving force in demanding change to help prevent school shootings.

At this event, Kaine will emphasize his support for the students’ activism and encourage them to continue to speak out for solutions that address gun violence.

Kaine has long been a leader pushing for action to prevent gun violence and keep Virginia families safe. As Governor of Virginia, Kaine helped close a loophole in the background record check system and worked with members of both parties to address mental health following the shooting at Virginia Tech. In the Senate, Kaine has introduced and supported legislation to improve the background record check system, hold gun manufacturers accountable, expand access to mental health services, and recently announced he would cosponsor the assault weapons ban to keep military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines off our streets and out of our schools.

Following the rally at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, participants will march across the MLK Bridge to the State Capitol. The march will conclude at the Bell Tower.
