unnamed-10The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical The Secret Garden is coming to the Wayne Theatre/Ross Performing Arts Center in November.

The local production, directed by Hank Fitzgerald, with musical direction by Jeff Ryman, will play at the Wayne Nov. 10-13 and Nov. 17-20.

Tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for students.

“This is perhaps the most ambitious undertaking we’ve made here at the Wayne,” said Tracy Straight, the executive director of the Wayne Theatre, noting that the production will feature a greater community cast and beautiful music recorded by live musicians.

The story comes from the classic of children’s literature, reimagined in brilliant musical style by composer Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of ‘Night Mother.

Orphaned in India, 11 year-old Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his invalid son Colin. The estate’s many wonders include a magic garden that beckons the children with haunting melodies, and the Dreamers, spirits from Mary’s past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden’s compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.

Tickets are available online or at the box office Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Group discounts are available.

The Wayne Theatre/Ross Performing Arts Center is located at 521 West Main Street in downtown Waynesboro.
