Culpeper District Traffic Alerts: Dec. 21-25

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

VDOT will suspend most highway work zones during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays to limit congestion and provide as many travel lanes as possible. Lane closures will be lifted on interstates and other major roads during the following dates and times:

  • Noon, Thursday, Dec. 24, to noon, Monday, Dec. 28, and
  • Noon, Thursday, Dec. 31, to noon, Monday, Jan. 4, 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is installing storm drain structures; installing a new traffic signal at Angus Road; building sidewalks and installing guardrail in the Route 29 median; and widening the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        On Saturday, Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Route 250 Bypass westbound right shoulder will be closed from Route 29 to Barracks Road. Motorists should remain alert for trucks entering and exiting the highway.

–        Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon, the Route 250 Bypass inside lanes will be closed in both directions from Route 29 to Barracks Road.

–        Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the outside lanes on Route 250 will be closed in both directions. Pavement marking eradication and the placement of new temporary pavement markings will occur on the ramp from the Route 250 Bypass west to Barracks Road and on the ramp from Barracks Road to Route 250 Bypass east. Traffic on the ramp from the Route 250 Bypass west to Barracks Road will use the left side of the ramp.

–        Monday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound Route 29 outside lane will be closed from Angus Road to the Route 250 Bypass. The ramp from Route 29 southbound to Route 250 Bypass west will be closed with a detour in place for motorists.

–        The ramp from Barracks Road to the Route 250 Bypass east will be narrowed and the acceleration lane from the ramp will be shortened, requiring motorists to stop before merging into the travel lanes.

 

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Sunday, Dec. 20 through Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on northbound and southbound Route 29 between Fashion Square Drive to Albemarle Square.

–        Both directions of Rio Road will be closed in the vicinity of the Route 29 intersection. All left turn movements at the intersection will be restricted; right turns will be permitted. Motorists should use the posted detour routes.

 

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. Sunday, Dec. 20 through Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., single alternating lane closures will occur on northbound and southbound Route 29 from just north of North Hollymead Drive to just south of Ashwood Boulevard.

 

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Jan. 15.

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Repairs to the eastbound and westbound bridges over Route 682 (Broad Axe Road), near mile marker 111. Monday through Wednesday, intermittent lane and shoulder closures may occur on I-64 and on Route 682 at the bridges. Motorists should remain alert for workers near the travel lanes, and for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

(UPDATE) Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Bridge replacement. Road reopened to traffic. Minor finishing work will require intermittent single lane closures with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should anticipate brief delays during daytime work hours.

(UPDATE) Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

(UPDATE) Route 854 (Carrsbrook Drive) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Road reopened to traffic. Monday through Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, finishing work may require intermittent single lane closures between Route 1432 (North Indian Spring Road) and Route 1419 (Marlboro Court). Traffic will be controlled by flagging. Motorists should remain alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 20, 22, 53, 531, 250, 686, 796 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 600, 743 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 614, 637, 668, 696, 758 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 632, 760 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 and to 50 mph on Route 29 through the work zone. Motorists should remain alert and use caution approaching the intersection. Anticipated completion August 2017.

  • Routes 15, 29, 229, 522 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 611, 621, 625, 678 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 628, 657, 752 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 668, 706, 721 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Fauquier County

(UPDATE) Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent lane closures with flagging will occur Monday through Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion July 2016.

  • Routes 17, 29, 211, 622, 628, 673, 694 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 602, 652, 669, 674 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 607, 622, 623, 648, 684, 703, 711, 751, 761, 788, 800, 817, 820 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 623, 691 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

  • Routes 6, 606, 609, 612, 614, 640, 650 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.

 

 

Greene County

(UPDATE) Route 642 (Simms Road) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur. Obey traffic controls.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 676 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 633, 676, 743 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Louisa County

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Kents Mill Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Intermittent lane closures will occur approximately 2 miles north of Route 22/33 (Louisa Road). Traffic controlled by flagging Monday through Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 22, 208, 250 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 652 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Madison County

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 611, 644, 645, 717 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Orange County

(NEW) Route 231 (Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Tree trimming in both directions from Route 33 in Orange County to Route 230 in Madison County. Single lane closures with flagging will occur Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 643 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 604, 695, 1060 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Rappahannock County

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Tree trimming in both directions from the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department to Thornton Gap. Single lane closures with flagging will occur Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occurMonday through Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.

  • Route 211 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 211, 622 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
