Virginia Tennis hosting Meet The Teams Day on Jan. 24

virginiaVirginia tennis fans are invited to enjoy a fun-filled evening on the court with the UVA men’s and women’s tennis programs and coaches during Meet the Teams Day on Sunday, Jan. 24. This free event will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

Fans can meet and interact with the student-athletes and coaches. The event will feature activities, drills and games for all levels of tennis players and enthusiasts to enjoy. Participants planning to take part in on-court drills must wear appropriate sports attire and non-marking footwear.

The seventh-ranked UVA women’s team returns six seniors from a squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 last season. Four players are ranked in the top 50 for the first time in program history, with 2014 NCAA singles champion Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) ranked No. 4 and Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) ranked No. 8. Virginia is one of only three teams in the nation to have two players ranked in the top 10. The Cavaliers open the spring dual-match season at No. 49 Boston College on Sunday, Jan. 17, and will host its first match of the season against BYU on Friday, Jan. 22, at the Boar’s Head Sports Club as a part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

The top-ranked UVA men’s tennis team returns 10 players from the 2015 NCAA Championship squad, including the nation’s second-ranked singles player, junior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C), and 2015 NCAA Singles Champion Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.).  The Cavaliers open the spring dual-match season on Sunday, Jan. 31, with a pair of home contests, hosting Kentucky at noon and Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. The Cavaliers will also serve as host of the 2015 ITA Men’s National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 12-15 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

Admission to all Virginia home men’s and women’s tennis matches is free.
