Everything went Salem’s way on Friday night at LewisGale Field, as the Sox smashed the Hillcats 10-0 to complete the series sweep over Lynchburg.
Lynchburg scored first and last, but Salem scored the most in a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night to begin a week-long homeland at LewisGale Field.
The struggling Winston-Salem offense erupted for eight runs in the first inning, only to see Salem nearly fight all the way back. Late in the game, the Salem Red Sox had numerous chances with the tying or go-ahead man at the plate, but the final clutch hit was never discovered, and the Dash hung on to prevail 10-8 on Easter Sunday at BB&T Ballpark.
The Carolina Mudcats were a strike away from getting out of it unscathed. Reed Gragnani stepped in with the bases loaded and two outs in a 2-2 tie in the top of the tenth, quickly falling behind 0-2 in the count against Rob Nixon. But a couple of pitches later, Gragnani drilled a 1-2 delivery into right field for a two-run single, vaulting the Salem Red Sox to their first lead of the chilly North Carolina night.
Reed Gragnani collected four hits, Luis Diaz dialed in for five dominant innings, and the Salem Red Sox kept up their winning ways with a 5-2 triumph over the Pelicans on Saturday night at TicketReturn.Com Field.
